Yesterday we reached a great milestone: we successfully completed the “Position Based FOD Detection” project with a live demo in front of our Terminal 3, which is currently under construction! ✈️
Foreign Object Debris (FODs) on the apron, such as screws or other foreign objects, pose a serious threat to flight safety as they increase the risk of damage to equipment and aircraft.
In an MVP project, we have therefore tested a robot-based, automated solution for FOD detection and removal, which enables us to significantly improve the accuracy and reliability of the process while relieving heavily used resources and time-critical bottlenecks. 🔎
Together with the Norwegian provider ROBOXI we were able to gain many valuable insights into the capabilities of the technology and, in particular, understand through our tests which challenges still need to be overcome in order to be able to use this solution productively.
Special thanks to everyone involved for their support and commitment! 🙌 Martin Buelow, Alexander Moser, Frank Schinck, Holger Metschan, Christian Wrobel, Astrid Wolff, Magnus Olsen Finnesand, José Luis Gil Yepes, Ole Grindhaug, Markus Dørheim, Adrian Bogen Skibelid and many other great colleagues.
