We at Momentum are incredibly proud to share the success story of how our internship project came to life! It all started with talented students like Janeni Jeevanathan, who was one of the first participants in the internship program when it was launched as a pilot project supported by the Veksthuset for verdiskaping – UiO Growth House. The following year, she took on the role of internship coordinator to further develop the initiative.
Janeni's research career began as a first-year medical student with a UiO internship (Momentum) at Novartis in 2021. There, she was introduced to a genetic risk factor elevated in 1 in 5 people in the general population – lipoprotein(a). She also connected with her current supervisors for her research project at the Medical Student Research Program (MD/PhD-program) at UiO. She quickly became captivated by the significant knowledge gap in this field.
Four years later, Janeni has published her first research article in an American journal, presented at several international and national research conferences, and established collaborations with leading experts in the field from Denmark, Austria, and Canada.
Most importantly, she has gained valuable knowledge and developed tools to manage large datasets to answer unanswered questions and contribute new insights to the research field. Her work has the potential to lead to better patient care for those affected by elevated Lp(a). Janeni has also met and connected with incredibly skilled individuals from around the world, helping her grow both personally and professionally.

A big thank you to Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) | University of Oslo and Novartis Norge for recognizing her potential and passion for the field as a first-year medical student and for facilitating her ability to pursue this work ever since.
This is proof of what a well-designed internship can achieve. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for our talented students and hope more companies recognize the potential of hiring university students with highly relevant skills and a focus on innovation and development!
