🔴 Live from the #POLITICOSustainableWeek! "Many of the tools and solutions we need to #decarbonize the European agriculture and industry already exist. Now we need to go to the extra mile. Scaling up game changers like lower carbon footprint fertilizers and precision farming must be our shared priority," explains Anke Kwast, VP of Regenerative Agriculture for Climate Frameworks at Yara International. These are the key pillars to build a more sustainable, resilient and competitive #foodsystem in Europe: 1️⃣ Decarbonizing agriculture must be a top priority for the new European Commission. The green transition needs a dual focus – cutting emissions while enhancing competitiveness and safeguarding all pillars of sustainability. 2️⃣ “Enough stick, more carrots”: legislation has laid the groundwork. Now European and national policymakers should focus on incentives and financial support to drive progress. 3️⃣ R&D must continue and innovation needs strong support. In the fertilizers sector, we already have the technologies to achieve #climateneutrality by 2050. However, private initiatives can’t do it alone. We need public support to amplify their impact. 4️⃣ The transformation of the agri-food value chain will only succeed through partnerships, with efforts and costs shared among all players.
