We're all about connecting producers and consumers and believe this is super critical especially in long supply chains (like the ones we need to participate in here in New Zealand). We think it's critical to sustainability and there's a business advantage to doing so. It's not just a nice thing to do it's a profitable thing to do! #sustainability #business #supplychains

About us
Backstory was born out of curiosity for how we might restore the positive outcomes that local supply chains provide us (economic prosperity, ecological benefits, and positive social connection) and bring these to long, fragmented supply chains. Backstory is a place where cutting edge technology meets environmental sustainability and innovative business models of the future. We are here to use technology to solve some of the worlds most wicked problems. We support ethical brands to be the “stewards of story” as their rightful place of highlighting the heroes of the value chain, the grower (the land) and the consumer. Prove by Backstory is a cloud-based app that manages evidence for corporate claims, product claims and certifications all in one place. Data in Prove is used by sustainable and ethical brands for making differentiated marketing claims that resonate with consumer values.

#knowyourfarmer More compelling reasons to understand the source of your food or ingredients. In a globalized supply chain it’s easy to be blind to the true impact of the sourcing. As it turns out a lot of consumers are wanting to #knowtheirfarmer So it makes a lot of business sense to not just get a certificate about country of origin, but to get the stories, the colour, the richness, track progress, and bring the characters that grow the food we sell, eat and serve to life. #powerofthebackstory

This is differentiation defined! Amazing work and hats off to the courage and leadership Akaroa King Salmon Thinking forward Bringing unique offerings to the customers, retailers and consumers Staying ahead of the game Consumers can’t reward what they can’t see Make your excellence visible… Prove your Backstory
We are stoked to announce that Akaroa King Salmon is the first King Salmon producer in the world to begin the Blue Impact feed program with BioMar. This is a whakawhanaungatanga (partnership) we've been developing over the past few years - first replacing wild caught fish oil with innovative farmed algal oil in our feed for some amazing Omega 3 results. Now we have started utilising other innovative products such as insect meal to minimise our impact on the marine environment and ensure the healthiest fish possible. This journey will see Akaroa King Salmon become a net-positive fish producer, committed to lowering its carbon footprint while incorporating regenerative and circular feed ingredients. Blue Impact feeds are designed as an individualised journey for aquaculture that requires continuous improvements across all three BioSustain™ impact parameters: Forage Fish Dependency Ratio (FFDR), percentage of circular and restorative raw materials, and carbon footprint. This is something Duncan, Ben, Willie, Lars and the whole team have been working on for some time as we look to honour our promises to be kaitiaki of Akaroa for this generation and the next. Big shout out too the team at Biomar to for working on this with us for so long to get where we are now and onwards into the future ! What is the value of data in the value chain. Not just any data, but data that backs up claims? This article uses recent examples such as Fonterra and JBS and Tyson Foods who have all faced greenwashing allegations, and unpacks why a "certification" isn't enough, and why data is needed to win in market.
What's the Value of a Backstory. The Dollars and Cents of Data in the Value Chain.

❓ What does Regenerative mean ❓ Great question! Farmer's Footprint and Farmer's Footprint New Zealand here to share the stories of growers, consumers, processors, retailers and anyone on this journey. We love a good robust #Backstory - What is your Regenerative Backstory? 💫 The new and innovative certifications are great examples of why a strong backstory is needed ✅ It needs to translate and mean something to an end consumer that's often not overly familiar with the nuances of agriculture ✅ It needs to have grounding in good evidence based practices and standards, and that needs to be made visible to end consumers and various stakeholders in the value chain.
We are Farmer's Footprint New Zealand, part of a global movement launched here in Aotearoa in 2023. Our mission is to inspire, facilitate, and accelerate New Zealand's transition to a more regenerative agricultural system that will restore soil, human, and planetary health. Inspired by Zach Bush, MD and his work linking soil and human health, we are a national non-profit dedicated to sharing stories of local farmers committed to landscape regeneration. Thank you to the team at Farmer's Footprint USA for bringing the organisation and its principles to the land of the long white cloud. Through this community, we will connect farmers, consumers, and stakeholders at all stages of their regenerative journey, creating conditions for greater system health. Whichever stage you are joining us from, welcome to Farmer's Footprint New Zealand. We’re glad you’re here.
