An update on the Stats NZ Ethnicity Standard review. Targeted engagement with government agencies, iwi-Māori, community groups, researchers, and academics is now planned for early to mid 2025.

The Philippine Studies Network Aotearoa New Zealand is co-hosting a workshop on Te Tiriti o Waitangi on Saturday 15 February, in association with Tangata Tiriti - Treaty People, Migrant Action Trust, and Puketapapa Local Board

While existing research into young migrants has explored aspects of their lived experiences, there is little work that specifically investigates these from a perspective of inequality or differences among and between NZ’s ethnic groups. This paper uses data from a series of nation-wide surveys of secondary school students (Youth 2000 surveys). The analysis shows that the youth population in Aotearoa/New Zealand to be more diverse than ever before, with growing disparities among migrant groups in legal status in Aotearoa/New Zealand, experience of household, neighbourhood and school deprivation, social connectedness, ethnic discrimination and health. ***Calling For Expressions of interest.*** The MELAA Advisory Group (MAG) has been tasked to provide culturally specific considerations for health practitioners who interact with those within the MELAA community with co - existing mental health and substance abuse problems. MAG is inviting expressions of interest towards contributions to the Te Ariari o te Oranga update. Te Ariari O Te Oranga is a clinical framework to assist health professionals working with co-existing substance use and mental health problems (CEP), (Todd, F.C. 2010). The information provided will be included in the forthcoming update to help improve the quality of healthcare delivered to those within MELAA communities. We hereby invite the following to participate in these conversations:  Health practitioners in the Alcohol and Other Drug workforce, such as clinicians, counsellors, peer support workers, caregivers  Persons within the MELAA communities with lived experience of co-existing mental health and substance use problems Whanau (family) and support persons of those in the MELAA communities with co-existing mental health and substance use problems We plan to hold two virtual workshops to engage in discussions; 25th January and 15th February 2025.
