About us
Marlborough District Council’s Economic Development Team drives economic programmes that help unlock Marlborough’s economic potential and create a thriving economy balanced with a flourishing environment. Our Vision for Marlborough A thriving economy balanced with a flourishing environment and vibrant communities. We have three overarching goals for the region. Be a recognised leader for agritech solutions in Australasia. Accelerate cross-collaboration to drive efficiency and productivity through technology and innovation. Tell the Marlborough story to attract investment, businesses and talent to the region. What do we do? Under the working name ‘Innovate Marlborough’ the team is spearheading an ambitious agenda for innovation and transformation across Marlborough’s industry sectors. This involves implementing tech and innovation programmes as well as supporting collaboration programmes that tackle industry problems, such as climate change, resilience, waste and carbon-reduction and sustainability. Innovate Marlborough engages widely with Marlborough’s impactful economic sectors and our work programme is laid out in the inaugural Marlborough Economic Wellbeing Strategy 2022–2032.

Great way to finish up the year for the CIT Aerospace and Aviation group. Thanks to Nick Hansen and Touchdown Zone Projects (TDZ), we were able to have the last meeting of the year at FROMM Winery to discuss the successes from the year (Future of Work Aviation Collaboration, Kurahaupō and Government airport settlement, NMIT Aviation engineering, weloveithere video https://lnkd.in/g53GgypA, Air New Zealand announcement of Wellington and Marlborough Airports as the ports for its first all-electric aircraft) and plans for next year. Great session with Justin Flitter on AI at our leadership breakfast series. Good engagement as we all look to see how AI can enhance both productivity and profitability. The AI notes from Otter were The discussion highlighted the rapid advancements in AI, particularly in generative models like ChatGPT and Perplexity, which can handle complex tasks such as search queries and conversation continuation. Enterprise integration of AI tools like CoPilot from Microsoft is gaining traction, offering significant productivity benefits, such as saving an hour per meeting. AI's role in various industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, and marketing, was emphasized, showcasing its potential to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Concerns about AI's impact on job markets and the need for critical thinking skills were also addressed. The session concluded with a call to action for companies to appoint AI leaders and explore AI's potential benefits. Action items • Appoint an AI leader to drive AI adoption within the organization. • Identify use cases for AI within the organization and understand the data and workflow impacts. • Develop a plan to build AI skills and ensure good governance around data privacy and security. • Explore the use of AI-powered tools like Copilot, Perplexity, and ChatGPT to automate and enhance business processes. • Investigate the use of generative AI tools like Midjourney and Runway ML for content creation and marketing. "Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura invests in Puro medical cannabis" Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura has made a significant investment into medical cannabis company Puro. The Kēkerengū-based company, north of Kaikōura, is one of New Zealand’s first medical cannabis companies, and has been working with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to develop industry standards.
