Why It Matters
Join us for two special screenings of "We Are The Warriors" at the Bates Film Festival in Lewiston and Portland this week! The documentary explores the complex dynamics surrounding the use of Indigenous mascots and a town’s struggle to reckon with their identity and past. We hope to see you there as the film explores themes of cultural identity, reconciliation, and the enduring impact of colonial legacies. After the film, Ambassador Maulian Bryant, Michael-Corey Hinton, and Joe Hall will join the film's co-directors, David Camlin and Megan Grumbling, for a panel discussion about the film and current issues Wabanaki communities face. Lewiston - Thursday, May 16 - 6:00 p.m. - Olin Arts Center Portland - Friday, May 17 - 7:00 p.m. - SPACE Gallery Reserve free tickets at: https://lnkd.in/eEGRZWCC

In 1966 Manyara national park faced an impossible question, was culling the answer to its overcrowded elephant population? Destruction of wildlife habitat and detrimental elephant behavior had to be addressed. Oxford Zooloogist Iain Douglas Hamilton received a grant to scientifically study the animals to find the alternative, whereby he lived with the elephants in the wild for nearly six years. During that time he discovered the wonders of elephant behavior, building a relationship with elephant families while starting his own alongside theirs. In 1972 Iain released a landmark thesis recommending corridors between habitats for animals, not culling. Later, Iain pioneered the first elephant tracking collars to further study migration behaviors, and the the first aerial census as part of the monitoring. The science and data Iain championed remains the bedrock of Save The Elephants work today, overcoming impossible threats to elephant and human coexistence—with science. A new narrative for the organization is soon to be released in October. I’m proud to have dedicated over 1/2 a year of my life working on it. The documentary below, developed by STE, sets the stage for the organization’s groundbreaking work, yesterday and today, in creating understanding for the significance of elephants. The new narrative will address Africa’s greatest challenge today - the Human Elephant coexistence crisis. Right now Africa views elephants as its #1 problem. However, for its development, it’s people, and our sustainable future with nature, climate, and biodiversity, the crisis represents its greatest opportunity. Now, more than ever, elephants need a voice in our changing world. #businessnarrative #businessnarrativetransformation #caseforsupport #ngo #wildlifeconservation #brandstory #brandstrategy #categorythinking #categorydesign #hypnoticdesign

These same questions can be asked about Visual Effects schools. Specifically, students should ask some fundamental questions before paying that tuition. 1- Will your school (and it's completion degree) increase your chances at getting a job? 2- Will there be jobs (entry level and upward) in your target industry after graduation? 3- Will you get a return on your investment of time and money back to you? 4- Would making your own projects and learning to sell your own products return better compensation?
Is film school still relevant in the modern age of media? 🎥🎬📽️🎞️😬
