Planning is underway for next year’s influential Health Forums as we head toward the end of 2024, when the portly man in the red suit comes down the chimney🎅 We are grateful to be working with members to ensure we take the subject matter of the Health Forum to another level in 2025. Together we are a strong advocacy voice, calling for access to the medications and treatments that New Zealanders deserve. NZ needs better alignment between the public and private sectors, and we will continue to challenge Pharmac, Medsafe and HealthNZ to think in more customer-centric ways. Working together to achieve better productivity using innovation, technology (including AI adoption) and science will be a key outcome for the Health Forum next year too.   For members who have supported and invested in BusinessNZ and our ongoing Health Forums; We appreciate and further encourage ideas and innovation. Health NZ Commissioner Lester Levy will present at BusinessNZ's next influential Health Forum in Auckland next month. Lester will articulate his priorities, his action plan and the challenges that beset our ailing health system. Most people working in health do so for the best reasons. But equally to remedy these challenges the sector must continue to be open to innovation, productivity gains perhaps linked to advanced AI, modern disease fighting medicines, the science of genomics and better optimisation of resources, facilities and equipment. When it comes to promises on health policy – in particular cancer treatments, the national interest and stakes are acutely high. This Government is committed to its promise on cancer treatment, but a lack of clarity has real-world consequences. A detailed plan from the Government is crucial for New Zealand’s healthcare system going forward. NZ needs a future-focused strategy to fund new medicines that encourages and embraces innovation, to better treat our population - as well as a clear communication strategy around it. How do you "course correct" New Zealand skills and education?
