How amazing is this? Māori-owned agribusiness Mīti is leading the way in sustainable, low-carbon beef production, and we’re so proud to be part of their journey! By extending the life of bobby calves, Mīti is turning what was once considered waste into a valuable new product: a low-emission beef snack that’s ready to take on the world. With support from NZFIN, they’ve been able to develop this game-changing product and are creating a whole new meat category, Mataora. It’s proof of what’s possible when innovation meets purpose. 🌍 UK Food Trends: Insights for NZ F&B innovators! Last week, Alasdair Baxter attended the British NZ Business Association event, where Hamish Renton from HRA Global shared some key UK trends that resonate strongly with our own market. Here’s what stood out: 🚀 Mega-Trends That Last: Premiumisation, Convenience, and Health have remained the core focus for over 20 years. 🍃 Health-Focused Shifts: Gut health, fermented foods, high-protein options, and provenance are all in high demand, mirroring NZ's health trends. Plant-based is moving towards natural options, think falafels over ultra-processed alternatives. ♻️ Sustainability Watch: The UK is cracking down on green-washing and unverified health claims, while new taxes and environmental laws are reshaping beverages. 🛒 Supermarket Expectations: Supermarket buyers want brands with credibility, backed by social media presence and strong market data. They even expect suppliers to identify the “competitor victims” they’ll replace on the shelves! And yes, AI is already part of their buying decisions. Thanks to FoodHQ, Hamish Renton and the British New Zealand Business Association for sharing these insights.

Love this collab between two NZFIN-supported innovators!
🌿 Kānuka Magic in Every Bite of Mīti! 🌿 After reading the story behind kānuka liquid smoke, I had to reach out to Dr. Kiri Dell and the Nuka team to include it in Mīti. Grown wild on her whānau lands in Tai Rāwhiti, this kānuka liquid smoke brings that genuine hāngī taste to every bite—a true flavor of Aotearoa. A huge shoutout to Dr. Dell, Professor Saeid Baroutian (pictured), Alex Radley, The University of Auckland and the team at New Zealand Food Innovation Network for turning this vision into reality. Through rapid-heating kānuka wood, they’ve captured the essence of the bush in a bottle, and we’re so proud to share their mahi with the world through Mīti. Kia ora to everyone involved in bringing this special ingredient to life! 🌏✨ If you want to talk and see Mīti, I am at the Food Bowl in Auckland for the next 3 weeks and visitors are welcome so please reach out. Breaking Ground at NZFIN! 🚧 Exciting progress is underway at NZFIN as we begin earthworks to install our new REDA CM100 low-temperature evaporator at FoodSouth. We're also this month commissioning a rotary evaporator at The FoodBowl. The new FoodSouth equipment is suitable for wine, juice, dairy, honey, and any other FMCG product requiring gentle concentration at low temperatures. It provides a sustainable, energy-efficient solution for product concentration and de-alcoholisation. Why are we so excited about the new evaporator at FoodSouth? This evaporator offers: ✅ Ultra-Low Processing Temperatures: Protects the delicate aromas and quality of your product, with no organoleptic changes – perfect for wine, juice, dairy, and extracts. ✅ Single-Step Alcohol Recovery and High-Level Concentration (up to 65-70° Bx): Ideal for applications requiring high precision and product consistency. ✅ Electric-Powered, Not Steam: Using only electricity, the heat pump technology is a sustainable alternative that eliminates the need for costly steam systems. Applications for this evaporator span across the dairy industry (milk, yoghurt, serum), beverages (juices, fruit concentrates, tea), the wine industry (grape must, dealcoholisation), and special products like honey, essences and extracts. NZFIN can't wait to complete the installations and add low temperature evaporation to our suite of capability to support local food and beverage innovation! #NZFIN #FoodInnovation #FMCG #LowTemperatureEvaporation #SustainableTechnology
