The New Zealand Orthopaedic Spine Society held another very successful meeting at the Sofitel in Fiji recently. The event began with a beautiful sunset cruise for all guests, including dinner and we were lucky to have had one of our delegates daughters providing some fantastic entertainment. We were excited to host Sean Molloy as our guest speaker. Sean shared his extensive knowledge of spine surgery with us throughout the meeting, we also had many other interesting presentations from our Spine Society members to make it a great opportunity to share knowledge, learn from others on techniques new and old and educate ourselves further from colleagues. We were lucky to be able to enjoy a traditional Fijian BBQ and managed to make the most of the stunning evening before the rain came down. The final night we all enjoyed ourselves at Madame So’s restaurant and were entertained by a local band through the night. Our thanks also to LifeHealthcare for sponsoring this event, we very much appreciate your support. #SpineSurgery #Orthopaedics #NZSpineSociety

Sixth and final conference for the year. I had the opportunity to present two of my PhD papers on Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy at the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association (NZOA) Annual Scientific Meeting in New Plymouth. It was good to engage in meaningful discussions with orthopaedic surgeons. Thanks to Dr. Anand Segar and Dr. Steve White for the guidance and mentorship for these presentations this year. That wraps up the 2024 conference circuit for me.

At our NZOA ASM 2024 Gala Dinner we celebrated the SET 5 year group who have passed the Fellowship Exam and named Dr Matt D’Arcy as winner of the Trainee Research Prize (for SET 5) and Dr Teriana Maheno as the Top Trainee (SET 5) congratulations to all. This was also when Dr Simon Hadlow passed on the role of President of the NZOA to Dr Khalid Mohammed. Simon, along with his wife Jane, have represented the NZOA outstandingly and we are sure that Khalid and Jacqui will do an equally great job. Simon does not leave just yet, joining the Presidential Line and continuing his work for the NZOA. #orthopaedics #NZOA #celebration #research
