Dispatches from Hawaii. And he’s off! Joe Wilson has begun his Molokai 2 Oahu race and is going strong. We’re watching on the tracker and it’s thrilling to see Joe up at the head of the pack. Just before the race start, Joe told us conditions were looking favourable with a gusting breeze off his right shoulder. “My board arrived to Moloka’i safely and the final briefing was pretty cool with some legends in the mix of this race. Tomorrow is going to hurt a lot but I’m pumped for what’s ahead. The hurt locker is going to be embraced.” Go get it, Joe! The Orams Marine team is cheering you on - to follow the race along with us, go to https://bit.ly/3Ysz5Sx

Dispatches from Hawaii: Track Joe Wilson as he takes on the world's most-challenging paddleboard race tomorrow. The final countdown is on and the Molokai 2 Oahu will get underway at 8am Hawaiian time. Joe tells us he’s had a busy few days with race pick up at Duke’s Waikiki, packing his supplies, and meeting with his escort boat to go over his race plan. “Today was one last busy day, packing essentials to fly over to Moloka’i with tomorrow - and it’s a one-way ticket, so the only way back is to paddle.” “Big thanks to the whole Orams Marine team, the support over here has been amazing and adds so much fuel to the fire.” Read the full story and join us in watching Joe as he takes on this most-challenging of paddle board races here. https://bit.ly/4fp0SJi

Dispatches from Hawaii. Athlete Joe Wilson is in the final countdown to race day as he takes on the Molokai to Oahu race this Sunday. Known as the world’s most-challenging paddle board race, Joe has joined with other competitors in Hawaii for his first training run on the ground as he prepares for Sunday’s event. Joe’s 18.5 kilometre training session took him from Sandy Beach Park to Kaimana Beach, Waikiki; a distance which he completed in two hours, averaging around nine kilometres an hour. Joe is joined in Hawaii by his support crew, who will be instrumental during the race, as well as fellow lifeguards with the Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, of which Joe is a member. Dispatches from Hawaii: We’re thrilled to be sponsoring local athlete, Joe Wilson, as he takes on the world’s most-challenging paddle board race. Joe has just landed in Hawaii to begin the final countdown to the Molokai to Oahu race, which will take place on Sunday 28 July. He tells us he’s been greeted with a scorching 30•C as he settles into his first Hawaiian training session; a 20km downwinder from Sandy Beach Park to Kaimana Beach, Waikiki. “It still hasn’t set in yet, what we are about to race. Our long range forecast is looking promising for the Sunday of racing with some strong gusts of wind.” Joe’s focus now until the race in a week’s time is to get his nutrition and hydration dialled in as he acclimates to the heat. Watch this space as we track his progress to the start line in the final countdown to racing.

We're thrilled to be supporting local athlete, Joe Wilson, as he takes on the Molokai to Oahu World Paddleboard Championships. The Molokai to Oahu takes competitors across the nearly 52 kilometres of the Ka'iwi channel. The ocean crossing is, encouragingly, known as the Channel of Bones due to its notoriously strong winds, intense currents, and proliferation of sharks, jellyfish and whales. Sponsorship is allowing the recent architectural graduate to maintain the intensive training needed to get to the race start line and take on this most-challenging of races. Read Joe's story here and watch this space for his training and race trackers as we follow his progress up to race day.
