What sets high-achieving students apart when solving number problems? Research on students aged 7 to 13 revealed that those identified as high achievers approached problems conceptually, using flexible strategies grounded in number sense. In contrast, low-achieving students often relied solely on memorized methods, even when these strategies proved challenging to apply. This finding underscores the impact of classrooms designed to nurture critical thinking and flexibility. What strategies do you use to build a classroom culture that supports conceptual learning? 🎥 Clip from Kelvin Sparks' keynote presentation at The CBI Mathematics Summit

Did you know that recent research in mind-brain education suggests we can hold information in working memory for weeks, even longer? The key to transferring that information into long-term memory, however, is meaning and connection. This sheds light on why students often remember just enough facts to pass a test, only to forget them soon after. Without deeper connections or relevance, those facts rarely stick. At Professional Learning International, we believe in transforming this approach. Through Concept-Based Inquiry, educators learn strategies to help students uncover meaningful connections—between historical events, global patterns, and even their own lives. It’s about moving beyond rote memorization to foster real understanding and transferable learning. Together, we can create classrooms where knowledge doesn’t just stay in memory for weeks—it lasts a lifetime. Watch the full episode here: https://bit.ly/49JsMxy
