  • Last night was a truly humbling moment at the 2024 Wellington Address, with The Wellington Company joining esteemed individual honourees (Adrian Orr, Doug Hauraki and Brian McGuiness), receiving the 2degrees Excellence in Business Award for our work on the restoration of Erskine Chapel. The event recognises the mahi and relentless energy of those who have made outstanding contributions to our city. These are people who inspire others and embody the spirit of service, helping Wellington business and its community thrive. The Wellington Address is a symbol that we are stronger together than we are apart, via the unique and historic partnership between the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, TeAweMāoriBusiness Network and Wellington Pasifika Business Network – together known as the Power of Three. It was a very special evening, with each of the individual honourees providing inspirational personal reflections on their respective careers and passions. In addition, we were treated to a deeply thought-provoking, yet humorous keynote from John-Daniel Trask of Raygun. His fascinating journey from start-up to now processing over 2.5 billion monthly errors for top global brands, including Domino's Pizza, Electrolux, Virgin Atlantic, and iFit exemplifies Wellington’s innovative spirit. And funny how life connects - turns out that back in the day John-Daniel helped a flatmate lay the IT cabling for our previous office. What rang loud and clear in conversations and speeches alike, was the deep love for our innovative capital, the belief that things will indeed get better, and most importantly - the collective drive to ‘knuckle down, and make things happen’. Our sincere thanks to The Power Of Three, Principal Partner 2degrees and supporting sponsors Mercury IT and Poneke Bakery, congratulations on all on such a wonderful event.

We’re proud to announce the final honouree of the 2024 Wellington Address: The Wellington Company, recognised for the award-winning Erskine Restoration. From 2016-2021, they undertook a painstaking journey that many others would've shied away from: developing a heritage-listed site in Island Bay into a housing development, all while restoring and retaining its unique history - the 1929 Erskine Chapel. Rather than lose the Category-1 listed 1929 landmark, The Wellington Company undertook a $7 million restoration and strengthening project to preserve it for generations to come. Their immense efforts meant that Erskine Chapel could once again be a beloved part of Wellington. The Wellington Address serves to recognise those who serve us beyond the call of their professional duty. You’re invited to join us as we honour this outstanding contribution to our city. Proudly sponsored by 2degrees, tickets are almost sold-out - get the final seats here: https://lnkd.in/gHQH9VH2 #thewellingtonaddress #wellington #galadinner #awards #recognition #honour #honouree #celebration #business #community

  • We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate Erina Chamberlain, who has been nominated for the Catalyst ‘Property Professional of the Year’ Award for the Property Council New Zealand Wellington awards. Erina represents the unsung heroes of Commercial Property: Facility Management. Development/Project teams tend to get the spotlight, but it’s the Facility Managers that make everything tick. They’re amazing people who have an uncanny ability to be across all the minute details (analysis, scenario/space planning, specification management, market search, reporting, maintenance) - yet see the opportunities for commercial growth and efficiency improvement at the same time, all whilst creating and building relationships. Great Facilities Managers are a rare mix of both detail and creativeness, and Erina is one of the best at what she does. Ask any architect, construction manager, project manager, tenant or tradie, and they’ll all say the same thing: Erina is one in a million. To work with Erina is to know excellence, but without any of the bravado, and she’s made a massive impact not only with us - but in her previous roles with Government (Oranga Tamariki and NZTA/Waka Kotahi), and at Weta Digital. She’s a hugely valued part of our team, and this award nomination reflects the total gem that she is. Congratulations Erina!

  • What an unforgettable experience! 🎶 Over the weekend, we had the privilege of showcasing the chapel's world-renowned acoustics to the NZIA jury panel. Our talented architects, Tobin Smith from Common and Adam Wild from archifact - architecture & conservation limited who dedicated years to this project, were in awe of how the music filled the space. A huge thank you to Faultline Chorus for creating this magical moment by performing "Hallelujah" upon the jury's entrance. The emotion in the room was palpable, touching everyone present, including the choir. Comments from our architects: Tobin: "I didn’t quite know what to expect not having heard anyone sing in the chapel space before, but it was an absolute game changer! The ladies smashed it out of the park!" Adam: "I can’t get the song or the experience out of my mind. It was extraordinary!" Thank you, Faultline Chorus, for giving us all a memory that will last a lifetime. 🌟

  • Following its recognition in the heritage category of the 2024 NZIA Wellington awards, we are beyond thrilled to advise that Erskine Chapel is now in the running for a national award too! The Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Awards 2024 Shortlist has just been announced, and Erskine Chapel has been honoured in the heritage category, along with also very worthy Toitoi Municipal Building in Hastings, and Dunedin Railway Station: tough category! But we are so proud of the recognition. Thanks to Ian & Caitlin for putting (many) millions into this incredible icon, plus we cannot emphasise enough the expertise of Adam Wild and Emma Wild of archifact - architecture & conservation limited, together with Tobin Smith of Common Architecture, the many talented craftspeople involved in the restoration, Johnson Bros Featherston 2002 Ltd for their strengthening, and Earl Hope-Pearson + Egmont Dixon Limited for the project management. What an absolute honour! • "We love it here. If we could take it back to Europe we would. The people are all so friendly, the kids play in the streets, the homes are beautiful. The people here have become our family". Our 96 home development in Erskine Island Bay has been recognised by the NZIA - Wellington Branch with wins for its multi-unit housing design (2023), and for our heritage restoration of Erskine Chapel (2024): but this piece of feedback received yesterday from a young family living at Erskine is what our team was striving for, so it was pretty special to receive it. Community building was core to our urban design, landscaping and architecture for this unique site: a vibrant neighbourhood of young and old, with real connections. As lovely as all the official recognition is, knowing we've delivered on our exact intentions from people living there is what it's all about. • "Absolutely chuffed, bloody excellent!" (Ian upon hearing mid-flight overseas that Erskine Chapel was a heritage category winner in the 2024 NZ Institute of Architects Wellington Awards). Thanks to the talents Common Architecture's Tobin Smith, archifact - architecture & conservation limited's Adam Wilde and the veritable squad of craftspeople involved in the strengthening and restoration. It was such a special moment of recognition for a deeply personal project, and we all felt the emotions on Ian's behalf. Ian grew up just down the road in Island Bay, and he saw this one through 23 years, requiring focused tenacity. Significant hurdles included a long drawn out legal battle over its protection, being red stickered post-Earthquakes and finally being badly attacked by vandals. The final spend was $7M+ (primarily funded by The Wellington Company, with the the project gratefully receiving a $250,000 Upgrade Works Grant from the Ministry for Culture & Heritage, and $75,000 from Heritage New Zealand. Wellington City Council contributed $10,000 towards seismic strengthening and $10,000 towards a Conservation Plan). The Judge's citation for this award is linked below - many thanks to the 2024 jury lead by Mary Daish for their enormous personal time and contributions in reviewing all finalists. https://lnkd.in/g-QkxQZA
