Just a few months ago Honda New Zealand Ltd was our only automotive company publicly sharing their parental leave policy on Crayon. Today we have ⭐️ six leading organisations with the latest being MTF Finance one of NZ’s most prominent vehicle finance lenders. Love seeing these organisations walk-the-talk and supporting kiwi parents. We are excited to see the automotive category grow. Nice work Chris Lamers, Jane Stumbles, Stephanie Pow, Steph Rowe. #womeninautomotive #greatplacestowork

Inchcape Asia-Pacific is one of the fabulous organisations who have joined the #womeninautomotivenz Accord. As a member organisation they commit to encouraging diverse views and championing the kaupapa of our mission among other things. Therefore how great is it to see Kym J. Mellow leading from the front with the Male Allies programme. We loved being part of the last session in your curriculum and witnessing first hand the inspiring work of the programme. Nice work Kym. 👏
I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: Male Allies Programme (Graduate) from Women Rising. The Women Rising Male Allies program has been a transformative experience providing invaluable insights into the many barriers women face in the workplace, such as gender mindsets and biases, and how we, as male allies, can help overcome them. It challenged me to reflect on my industry and my own leadership and how I can foster a more inclusive environment. The strategies and tools provided will guide me in being a more effective empathetic leader, mentor and sponsor, and ultimately helping me to build workplaces where everyone can thrive (regardless of gender). Thank you Megan Dalla-Camina for developing the course and importantly tailoring the male programme that will lead to a transition of more male leaders along the ally continuum. Special thank you to a number of my connections who participated in our 'group listening sessions', these sessions gave life to the content and opened my eyes to your challenges and importantly the many possibilities for the Auto Industry. We love hearing from our event attendees what resonated with them. Awesome reflection from Daile Stephens of Inchcape Australasia below. #womeninautomotive #womeninleadership
“We need to stop asking the under represented groups to solve the problem that they are facing,” was one of the key messages I got from this week’s Women in Automotive New Zealand event. Joe Consedine did a fantastic job of moderating a panel of people in the industry where we discussed how we can entice more females into sales roles. One of the topics dear to my heart is creating male allies to help increase the participation of women in the automotive industry. I am fortunate to have had male allies right through my life to help me become who I am today, from my Dad who still encourages me to keep pushing, to my male teachers and uni tutors, and my male managers through my career. And the biggest one of all is my husband who took on the role as Head Chef after we had kids and also had a one year career break after my maternity leave to look after the kids while they were still so little, all while forging a successful career of his own alongside me. One of the memorable soundbites was to “marry well” and while I 100% agree, I don’t think either of you should have to sacrifice a career to have a family if that’s what you want in life. I’d love to hear how you juggle it all - whose in your village or household that is your allie and supports you to be who you are and do what you what to do with your career? Share below ⬇️ 👇🏻 On top of my male allies we are also fortunate to have Au Pairs who I call my secret weapon. We have found them to be one of the more affordable childcare options given we don’t have family in Auckland. What/who is your secret weapon - do share!!! ⬇️ And for all the wonderful male allies who have made it this far down in my post - do you have any hot tips on how to support the rising women in your life?? Please share ⬇️ Thanks to Natasha Callister for the fantastic event, Joe Consedine for digging past the surface and Susanne Hardy, Russell Phillips and all the fabulous panellists.

An open call to the men in our industry: executives, senior leaders, HR professionals and retail sales leaders, we need your allyship. We have an opportunity to co-create a car buying experience women truly enjoy. A dealership environment where women feel like they belong, a safe space to discover the car of our dreams from someone who mirrors our lived experience, understands our unique perspectives and our individual needs. On Thursday 26 September, Women in Automotive NZ is producing the below event which aims to increase the participation of women thriving in automotive retail sales careers. Today, the participation rate for women working in the automotive industry stands at 17%, much less in front-line sales and less again in automotive leadership roles. That means that those with the greatest influence to impact change are our men. Here at Women in Automotive NZ we have been blown away by the fabulous male allyship and support we are already receiving from some truly purpose-led and inspiring male leaders. For those driving this change, we thank you. Our call to action is for even more to lean in. Show your support by attending the below event and let’s craft a legacy together. RSVP: info@womeninautomotive.nz A parting thought…. With great privilege, comes great responsibility.
