📣 Auckland wins the bid to host the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2028 📣 We're excited to announce that the world’s leading geoscience and remote sensing experts will touch down in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland for the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in 2028. What is the symposium about? 🌍 🛰️ Remote sensing is an area of exponential growth worldwide, with hundreds of new airborne, satellite and ground-based sensors deployed each year to capture critical data. This event will provide an opportunity for sharing knowledge on advancements in remote sensing and the societal benefit these sensors present, particularly in regards to Earth observation, disaster monitoring and risk assessment. “Hosting IGARSS will provide an invaluable opportunity to showcase research opportunities, foster global collaborations and contribute to the advancement of Auckland and New Zealand’s geophysical sciences, aerospace and engineering sectors." - Ken Pereira, Head of Auckland Convention Bureau. The bid was led by Alejandro Frery, Professor at Victoria University of Wellington and Gabor Kereszturi, Associate Professor at Massey University, with support from Professor Matthew Wilson, University of Canterbury, and Professors Nirmal Nair and Delwyn Moller from the The University of Auckland, along with the wider New Zealand geospatial and space-related industry, including Rocket Lab. The symposium is expected to attract at least 2000 delegates to the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in Auckland and deliver $4.9 million in economic impact to the region. 📢 Auckland Aligns City Priorities Through Business Events! 🚀 This week’s Unleashing the Potential of Business Events forum brought together over 150 national and international business event leaders, and demonstrated the pivotal role business events play in Auckland’s growth as a global destination, attracting diverse sectors and driving significant and lasting outcomes for our community. As Acting Mayor Desley Simpson highlighted, “This opportunity brings the public and private sectors together to focus on how we can further strengthen the region’s prosperity to take Auckland forward.” It was an absolute pleasure to welcome our International Advisors, who brought expert data-driven knowledge and innovative insights, along with our business events partners and economic development decision-makers. Ken Pereira, Head of Business Events at ACB, added, “Through meaningful discussions and insights, we highlighted how business events are a catalyst for economic and social impact in Auckland. Tourism New Zealand Business Events and New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) are proud to present two special ‘Long Lunches’ in Australia this week as part of the Australasian Society of Association Executives 2024 Women in Association Leadership series, ‘Leading Industries, Leading Associations.’ These events are a fantastic opportunity to bring together our sector leaders and future leaders to share experiences, network, and celebrate the incredible work women are doing in associations. Speakers at a very well-received event in Melbourne included remarkable leaders Katrina Richards, President of the Australian Podiatry Association, and Joanne Love - PsyScB(Psy) GradDipPsyAdv, Immediate Past President of SWIM Coaches & Teachers Australia. We’ll be in Sydney on Friday to do it all again with speaker Nina Mapson Bone from NMB People Strategy.
