The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. It is one of the most significant and best-preserved cave temple complexes in the country. Located in central Sri Lanka, near the town of Dambulla, this site has been a sacred pilgrimage destination for over 22 centuries.

The Golden & Cave Temple At Dambulla
If Sri Lanka is one of your bucketlist for travel, you will know that there is so much to see and visit in this underrated destination.
Sri Lanka is not only well known for tea plantations but also the many historic relics, scriptures, temples and tombs. One place where it is a must visit is the Dambulla Royal Cave Tample and Golden Temple located at Jaffna Hwy, Dambulla. This is a very popular tourists attractions since this is named as one of the world heritage site. I am not sure why but most temples have insane amount of steps where this has 364 steps to reach the Cave. And of course, in most temples you are to show respect to the gods where you are required to cover anything below your hips and do remember to bring sarong or sari I did not see any stores selling these stuff. Also, do remember to buy your tickets before entering the temple, you don't wanna wast your effort in climbing and get rejected.

Must visit in Sri Lanka
You've probably heard of the Dambulla Cave Temples if you're considering a vacation to central Sri Lanka (also known as the Dambulla Rock Temples.)
The Dambulla Cave Temples are without a doubt the most popular site in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. These temples are significant religiously and historically, but most visitors come to view their unique setting...inside a labyrinth of caverns!
Aside from the temples itself, the stunning vistas of Dambulla from just outside the Cave Tamples are also worth seeing. The Dambulla Cave Temples, in my opinion, are one of Sri Lanka's most magnificent tourist attractions.

Dambulla Cave Temple|A thousand-year-old Buddhist kingdom calls, and the black monkey king can come here to shoot.
|A thousand-year-old Buddhist kingdom calls, and the black monkey king can come here to shoot. 🌈Attraction features: Another pilgrimage site in Sri Lanka with a history of over 2,000 years. It includes five temples and is the largest and best-preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. It contains 2,100 square meters of murals and 157 statues.
🎟️Ticket information: 2,000 rupees
💗Other tips: You need to store your shoes before entering, 50 rupees
Dunhuang of Sri Lanka | Dambulla Cave Temple
Starting from Colombo (Negombo), the first stop is the Dambulla Cave Temple. Before arriving at the Dambulla Cave Temple, my expectations were not high, but it turned out to be my favorite attraction.
The ticket for the cave temple is 2000 rupees, cash only. To reach the cave temple, you need to climb a long flight of stairs, and near the entrance, you need to store your shoes (or put them in your backpack), which costs 50 rupees per pair. We paid 100 for three pairs.
Inside the cave temple, there are five caves in total, each with a reclining Buddha statue in Nirvana pose. Depending on the size and shape of the cave, various Buddha statues of different sizes are also sculpted.
The first and fourth caves are smaller, while the second cave is the largest and most impressive. Buddha statues in various poses are arranged on three sides, and on the left side of the cave near the outer wall, there is a stupa with eight Buddha statues sitting around it, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
The walls and ceilings of all the caves are covered with colorful paintings, including large Buddha statues and rows of small Buddha statues. Some decorative patterns resemble deformed grids, giving a rather fashionable feel.
The Buddha statues are in the style we call 'Cao Yi Chu Shui,' indicating that the Buddha statues in Qingzhou, China, were influenced by South Asian Buddha statues. However, the expressions and facial features of the Buddha statues are somewhat naive and not as compassionate and generous as Chinese Buddha statues.
These sculptures date back about 2100 years, roughly equivalent to the Han Dynasty in China. The ancient Sri Lankans, driven by their faith and effort, carved such exquisite cave temples out of hard rock, which is commendable.
Dambulla Cave Temple
The Dambulla Cave Temple, founded during the 1st and 2nd centuries, is located on a massive rock mountain in the southern part of Dambulla city. The Dambulla Cave Temple has a history of over two thousand years and has attracted pilgrims for centuries with its exquisite murals and stone carvings. The temple consists of five caves and is the most magnificent and solemn among the many cave temples in Sri Lanka. Its history is recorded in Pali at the entrance of the first cave.
Tour of the Golden Buddha, Cave Temple and Temple of the Tooth: A blend of antiquity and mystery
A gleaming golden Buddha stands in the Golden Buddha Temple. Although it was built later, it still attracts many believers and tourists to worship. The small slope next to it seems to lead to another mysterious place - the Grotto Temple. We climbed up the stairs curiously, but found a small "trap". It turns out that the ticket office of the Cave Temple is not at the top of the mountain, but at the bottom of the slope. This means that we need to go down the mountain to buy tickets first, and then climb up to visit. This design does make people a little confused, but fortunately the landscape of the Cave Temple is worth a visit. Although it is small in scale, it exudes an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.
As for the Temple of the Tooth Relic, although we missed the day to see the Buddha's Tooth Relic, there were many believers in the temple and the incense was flourishing. It is conceivable that when the official day comes, the place will be even more lively, and the mystery and solemnity of the Buddha's Tooth will also make every visitor feel a kind of spiritual shock.
This trip to the Golden Buddha Temple, the Grotto Temple and the Temple of the Tooth Relic gave us a profound experience of the blend of ancient and mysterious. Although there are some hiccups, it also adds to the fun of the journey. In the days to come, we will set foot on this legendary land again to explore more cultural relics and mysterious stories.
When the sea breeze of the Indian Ocean blows by, it feels like falling into the world of Spirited Away
📆【Itinerary Guide】
📆Itinerary:
DAY1: [Negombo Town]-[Dambulla Golden Buddha]-[Mineria National Park]
[Negombo Town] The main focus here is to see the local culture. The Negombo Fish Market is located on the edge of the Indian Ocean around the Negombo Lagoon. It is suitable for friends who like photography and understand the local culture. Otherwise, it is a dirty and messy vegetable market.
[Dambulla Golden Buddha] A temple built with Japanese aid. There is a gold-plated Buddha statue at the door. If you pass by and take a look, you will see that there is a Buddha grotto inside the mountain. However, compared with the Mogao Grottoes in China, it pales in comparison, so you can choose to go there.
[Minneriya National Park] There are as many as nine national parks in Sri Lanka. Among them, Minneriya National Park is a smaller one and is mainly used for jeep safari. The main purpose here is to see elephants, their relatives, and their tusks have been sawed off. The chance of seeing clouded leopards is extremely small. We also saw buffalo, peacocks and monkeys this time. If you have plenty of time later, it is recommended to go to Yala to see animals.
DAY2【Lion Rock】-【Buddha Tooth Relic Temple】
[Lion Rock] A must-visit place in Lanka, it was built by the Sinhalese king in the 5th century AD. At that time, Prince Kasiyabo killed his father and usurped the throne. Because he was afraid of his brother's revenge and to establish his authority, he built the giant rock on the giant rock. This palace was built on.
The Temple of the Tooth Relic is a temple in the romantic ancient city [Kandy]. You can watch the sunset in the ancient city of Kandy and experience the local religious culture.
DAY3: On this day, we are going from the central part to the southwest coast to prepare for whale watching the next day. The journey takes 5 hours. So you can take a brief look at [Peradeniya University] in the morning, and then check into the hotel early in the afternoon. The hotel here comes standard with a swimming pool, where you can relax in the swimming pool while watching the sunset.
DAY4 [Whale watching in Mirissa]-[Ancient Galle City]
There are two places in the world that are the best places to watch blue whales. One is in Australia, and the other is located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. A large number of blue whales will appear here from October to April of the following year. You need to get up early here, as the boats will leave one after another around 7 o'clock. It is recommended to live closer to the ship.
[Ancient City of Galle] It was built when the Portuguese colonized Sri Lanka and was later colonized by the Netherlands, Britain and France. Now it is similar to China's ancient town pedestrian street, with many shops and spy ceylon national brand stores.
DAY6 [Madu River]-[Sea Train]-[Colombo City]
[Madu River] The main thing is to take a boat trip through the mangroves. The scenery is very beautiful, and there is a chance to see lizards.
【Sea Train】
[Downtown Colombo] Mainly see the ancient Greek architectural style [Old Parliament Building] and the [Red Mosque] - a red and white brick building with a lollipop-like painting.
🚗Transportation guide:
You can fly to Lanka from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Hong Kong. Chengdu is a little closer. Domestic flights generally go to Chengdu Shuangliu, and you need to transfer to Metro No. 19 to Tianfu International to depart. The advantage of flying to Hong Kong is that when flying back to Hong Kong from Lanka, you can enter Hong Kong without a pass and stay for up to seven days.
🌟Highlights of the trip: The probability of seeing whales is low, but you can definitely see dolphins, and there are many of them. We also saw turtles this time.
📌Tips:
Commonwealth countries require travel sockets, square-headed ones;
In a tipping country, it is recommended to prepare more small-denomination banknotes. The first place you get off the plane at the airport is the currency exchange place. Remember to keep the exchange slip. There is no handling fee for the return trip. After exchanging rupees, the next step is to buy a card from the Dialog operator. There is only 4G network speed here which is slow, so you don’t need to buy too much data.

You must come here!
You must come here!
You must come here!
✓At first, I didn't care about it, just as a transit station for Lion Rock, and to check in, but it exceeded expectations.
✓So, Dambulla Cave Temple, as a world cultural heritage listed by Unesco, is reasonable.
✓It is recommended to take a tuk-tuk directly to the top of the mountain to visit the cave, and then go down the mountain after visiting the cave, and you won't feel too tired.
Address: Dambulla Cave Temple, Dambulla
Time: 7:00~19:00
Ticket: 2000 rupees
Scale: 5 caves, 157 Buddha statues, 2100 square meters of murals
Transportation: Dambulla city is very small, it can't even be called a city. If you live in the center, the farthest distance is within 2km
History: In the 1st century BC, King Vattagamaniabahaga defeated the Tamils from the Indian subcontinent, regained the territory and throne here, so he relied on this hill shaped like a fish spine, excavated the cave to thank the gods. With the expansion and decoration of the kings of the past dynasties, five large-scale cave statue groups were formed.
Key: The "Fearless Mountain Temple Sect" created by King attagamaniabahaga, who reigned from 77-89 BC, caused a split in Sri Lankan Buddhism. At that time, the Chinese Faxian went to the Fearless Mountain Temple in Anuradhapura for study.
🇱🇰 The Largest cave temple complex in Dambulla, Sri Lanka
#wheretogo
Inscribed in 1991 as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the island country. The temple complex was built into five caves under overhanging rock and has been a sacred pilgrimage site since 22 centuries ago. The Buddhist mural paintings and statues in the caves are sights to behold.
The cave temple is located up on a hill 20 km from Sigiriya. The entrance ticket costs 2000 rupees per person and can only be bought at the ticket counter at the foot of the hill. From there we had to climb many flights of stairs to reach the entrance of the temple. The view of the the surrounding area on the way up was spectacular. Before entering the temple we had to remove our shoes so wearing socks is recommended. Remember to wear modest clothing that covers your knee and shoulder while visiting sacred sites. There are lots of street sellers outside the temple selling sarong. It is also possible to rent a sarong to cover your knees before entering the temple.

🚗Traffic strategy:
It is still recommended to charter a car for traveling in Sri Lanka. The distance between scenic spots is too far. Chartered car tour around the island is the best choice.

If you really want to take a photo with the Buddha statue, you can face the Buddha statue and take a very pious photo.
4️⃣Try not to turn over your bag in front of monkeys, some monkeys will think you have something to eat and attack you.

This is a five-star hotel that advocates the concept of environmental protection
Heritance Kandalama Hotel
located near the Dambulla Cave Temple in Sri Lanka.
Reduce the traces of human beings to the weakest, go out to nature, always feel that you are walking in a national park
Interestingly, the transliteration of kandalama is like Chinese (see?), from It is really difficult to find the buildings hidden in the mountains from the direction of the hotel across the lake.
This kind of harmony between man and nature is the spiritual feeling that the Lion State brings to tourists.
Stayed at this hotel for one night and saw three pairs of Sri Lankan newlyweds holding a ceremony here, which shows that this hotel is in the hearts of its own people.
The dining of this hotel is very good, I have to restrain myself from taking too much, otherwise I really want to be too full, but I really choose a lot and taste good.
Departing from Sigiriya in the morning, I drove to the Dambulla Cave Temple in half an hour. Buy tickets at the foot of the mountain. The latest ticket price is 1,500 rupees, which is the way out of the 1200 rupees introduced on the Raiders, so remember to budget more than 300 rupees.
Then climb about 10 minutes or so to the entrance to the Grotto Temple. You can't wear shoes in the cave temple, so you should store your shoes at a rate of 25 rupees. Then check the ticket, enter the cave temple, and start to enjoy it. The
Danbula Cave Temple is located in the middle of the island of Sri Lanka, 60 kilometers north of the ancient capital of Kandy. The temple was built in the 1st century BC and is a pilgrimage site in Sri Lanka.
Danbula Cave Temple is a typical cave temple in Sri Lanka, situated on the slope of a rocky mountain.
Cobble the temple from the mountain rock. There are various stone carving statues and other sculptures in the temple, and there are all murals. The
Buddha Cave consists of five sacred churches. It is Sri Lanka's largest and most preserved cave temple. It is of great religious and artistic value and displays the charm of Buddhist art.
Here is a reminder that the cave temple is closed at noon, open from 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning and from 2 to 7 in the afternoon.
The Dambulla Cave Temple is one of the first places in Sri Lanka to be named a World Heritage Site. In fact, I still believe in the eyes of the old guys in the United Nations. It is not that some small favors can be bought, and the country like Sri Lanka cannot come up with a small favor. Therefore, I would like to see wherever the world's cultural heritage is. However, except for one country, as for who is this country, you know.
At the entrance to the temple, the little boy sells lotus flowers to us. In Sri Lanka, the locals will pray for a pure lotus flower when they pray to the temple.
It is said that as early as two thousand years ago, at the end of the first century AD, South India had invaded Anuradhapura, the ancient capital of Ceylon. The king fled to Dambulla in order to escape the invasion of South India. , hide in the grottoes and get shelter from local monks. A few years later, the king regained the throne. In order to be grateful, the cave that had taken refuge in that year was built into a Buddhist temple and donated to local monks. The
Danbula Cave Temple is located on the slope of a huge stone on the back of the Golden Temple. On a 160-meter-long granite level, five caves were manually cut. At first, only Buddha statues were built in three caves. Later, after two kings' expansion, they became the current five. It is said that there are dozens of miles around Dambulla. They used to be the settlement of monks. They are known for their meditation, and the Dambulla Cave Temple is a good place for Sri Lankans to reminisce about the past.
Located in the subtropical jungle, Heritance Kandalama is a blend of rock, mountain and greenery. It is an ecological heritage hotel from Bawa, with a simple geometric design, but the color is definitely not so monotonous!
Go out from the lobby and see the blue pool blending with nature. This infinity pool is so beautiful that people can't even take off their clothes and want to jump in!
The main building in the middle is the lobby, restaurant, etc... The left and right wings are rooms, from the end of one wing to the end of the other wing, up to one kilometer.
If the room you live in is closer to the end, then after the elevator comes out, you may need to take a few more steps, but this can just accumulate your number of steps, and go back and forth. Just ranked in the top three!
In fact, in the corridor to the room, it is not so boring, just take a shot, there will still be some good harvest!
In the room, the favorite is this large bathtub that can admire the lush jungle, and the shower room where the monkeys will peek at you at any time.
Travel vacation, its a pleasant thing to sleep in the hotel bed, but its a waste of sleep at Heritance Kandalama.
and the monkeys outside the window greeted each other and walked all the way from the corridor to the restaurant, pretending that they were the cavemen who lived in the cave and went out for food!
Looking at the green outside of the floor-to-ceiling glass, now understand why not sleep late!

Sigiriya, listed in the United Nations World Heritage List in 1982, is about 170 kilometers northeast of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the "Lion Rock" about 200 meters high. It is famous for its Sigiriya murals. The Sigiriya murals are The only non-religious mural that has been handed down in Sri Lanka's history. It was built in the 5th century Datu Shena Dynasty. It is the same name as Borobudur in Indonesia, Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Ajanta Cave in India. The terrain of the Lion Rock has been very strange. With such a breathtaking palace ruin, even without the title of the Eighth Wonder, Lion Rock is definitely the most worthwhile place in Lanka. The entrance to the air palace in Figure 9 is a narrow staircase that is closed. The few murals facing the spiral ladder are the best preserved. The murals are painted on a layer of lime painted on rocks. All these bright colors are mineral extracts and are made with glue and egg yolk. These 20 portraits are just a small part of the Lion Rock mural. From the west side of the rock to the northeast corner, there is a painting strip of 140 meters long and 40 meters wide at the widest point. These natural pigments disappear gradually after a long period of sun and rain, leaving only some pigments. And the traces of plaster, only these more than 20 in the rock depression can be preserved, incomparably precious Figure 1.
Traveling to Sri Lanka, be sure to come to this hotel to punch in!
The name of the hotel is: Heritance Kandalama Hotel.
The hotel was designed by Sri Lanka's national treasure architect Geoffrey Bawa, and it is said that opening the door is a natural hotel. The entire hotel is situated in the virgin forest, as if it were set in the rock! Free and open walkways and naturally exposed rock slopes are fully integrated into the hotel design. The design along the cliffs is like a bird's wing that spreads to the sides. The wooden pillars support a flat roof filled with vegetation, like a natural landscape stretching along the mountains, attracting wildlife to inhabit. From the hotel you can see the world heritage site - Lion Rock, so the name of the hotel is also related to the World Heritage! This hotel was named the world's first LED environmentally friendly hotel by the American Green Building Council.
The design of this hotel is really completely integrated into the nature, looking at the hotel in the forest, this is why I am shaking the red dress, want to shoot in such a hotel, a big red dress really It is very necessary!
