2024 Mokpo Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)

It was a trip to Mokpo, Korea. We started our trip by visiting Yudalsan Mountain ⛰️ The hike was manageable, and the panoramic views of Mokpo’s coastline and nearby islands were worth every step. Sunrise 🌅 here is magical, with the city slowly coming to life beneath a soft glow ✨ In the afternoon, we explored the Mokpo Modern History Museum. The old architecture and exhibits provided a fascinating glimpse into Mokpo’s past, and the quiet atmosphere made it ideal for photography 📸 Yudalsan Mountain 📍9, Yudal-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Mokpo Modern History Museum 📍6, Yeongsan-ro 29beon-gil, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do We also visited Samhakdo Park, a peaceful waterfront spot. The views of Mokpo Bridge and the surrounding islands were stunning, especially with the morning mist lingering over the water 💦 Then we headed to the Gatbawi Rock. The silhouette of this natural rock formation against the sunset sky was a memorable sight. The tranquility of the area added to the experience, making it perfect for reflection and photography 📸 Samhakdo Park 📍51, Bukhang-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Gatbawi Rock 📍Gatbawi Culture Town, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do We also explored the Mokpo Marine Cable Car 🚡 early in the morning to avoid the crowds ☀️ The aerial views of Mokpo’s harbor and Yudalsan Mountain were incredible. Capturing the city from this unique perspective was a highlight of the trip 😍😍😍 We also visited Nojeokbong Peak. The gentle trails led to a scenic spot overlooking the city and the sea 🌊 It’s a quieter location compared to Yudalsan, making it perfect for peaceful photo sessions 📸 Mokpo Marine Cable Car 📍240, Haeyangdaehak-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Nojeokbong Peak 📍24-5, Yudal-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do Mokpo is a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural history. And it was a large 2-story cafe, so it didn't feel stuffy, and the ocean view through the large windows was really nice. #wecreate Mokpo marine cable car which crossing a length of 3.2 kilometers and at a height of 155 meters, make it the longest and highest cable car in South Korea. It is located at 240 Haeyangdaehak-ro, Mokpo-si, and is open Monday to Thursday at 1000-1900, and Friday to Sunday at 0930-2000. It can be reach by taking Bus number 1 from Mokpo train station. This cable car is divided into two sections, the first goes to the top of Yudalsan mountain, where you can alight and walk around. The next ride will take you across the sea to the Gohado Island which is the longest stretch. You can walk to Gohado Observatory, a unique building built with orange containers. It offers visitors an amazing view of the old downtown area of Mokpo, and the surrounding natural scenery.

#wecreate Gatbawi Rock is a natural sandstone and tafoni formation near the mouth of the Yeongsangang River on the coast of Yonghae-dong in Mokpo. Take Bus 15 from Mokpo train station, and then head toward the ocean, then cross the bridge. Gatbawi is named after its shape, which is said to look like two men wearing traditional Korean hats. The rocks are actually made of two individual formations measuring 8 meters and the other is 6 meters. For a pleasant walk along the sea for around a kilometer, you will be headed to Mokpo Peace Square, which is also known as Pyeonghwa Plaza. This stretch of marine road have beautiful sculptures, convenient facilities, cafes and restaurants for families and lovers.

Do you know Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do? It's a famous port town, and there's a lot to see🐥 I think the most famous cafe is this one ☕️대반동 201 A cafe🍰 You can see the ocean well and it's great on sunny days! There are sofas on the terrace, so you can relax and enjoy delicious drinks and desserts🎧 It's also beautiful at night, and the bridge is lit up, which makes it romantic🩷 It's a great place to come on a date, so if you're in Jeollanam-do, be sure to check it out🐶

Highlights - The smokiness from the wood fire oven gives the meat extra flavor. The bancjan was superb. Avg. Price per Person - We paid around 50 000 krw for a couple set. Rating - A perfect 10

Address - 990, Sang-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do 2F. Ambiance/Facilities - Misoya is a fusion Japanese restaurant. It is very homely and comfortable. Highlights - The food was freshly prepared and very delicious. The kimchi stew prork cutlet and spicy stir-fried beef had intense flavors. Avg. Price per Person - 8000krw to 10000krw Rating - A perfect 10

Address - 1159-10 Sang-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. Ambiance/Facilities - Starbucks Pyeongwha Square provides relaxation and serenity. It has great views of the wayerfront and mountains in the backdrop. Highlights - An array of coffee and delicious dessert. Avg. Price per Person - 4500krw and upwards. Rating - A pleasant 10 for a great time

Getting There - Mokpo is easily accessible by all kinds of public transportation and has both a bus terminal and train station. Attractions - Pyeongwha Square and Gatbawi Rock are famous attractions. There is also a Sky Walk and Cable Car. Hotels - Fontana Beach Hotel. Food & Restaurants - Curry Story is my favorite Indian Restaurant. Shopping - Rose Street

It is sparking clean, spacious and provides a natural atmosphere. Perfect for rest and relaxation. Highlights - All the goodies are freshly baked on a daily basis Avg. Price per Person - 4000krw Rating - a perfect 10

Address - 1345-6 Ogam-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do. Ambiance/Facilities - Noodle Tree restaurant has a pleasant setting and location. Highlights - The food was fresh and the portion sizes were generous. I highly recommend the pork cutlet in kimchi stew. The fresh noodles were also delucious. Avg. Price per Person - 5000 to 15000krw Rating - 10/10.

Address - 1173-9 Seokhyeon-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do. Ambiance/Facilities - Paik's Coffee is a recently opened coffee shop Seokhyeon-dong, Mokpo. The coffee shop is bright and airy. It gives off a clean and fresh feel. The seating is ample and comfortable. Highlights - The coffees are high quality and value-for-money. The service is fast and very efficient. The is an ordering machine which has an option for English and there is free wifi. I recommend the hotdog or the salad sandwich for a quick bite. Avg. Price per Person - 1500 krw to 9000 krw Rating - 9/10. For a pleasant experience.

Samhakdo island is one of the touristic places in Mokpo city. The island is quite small and is covered with mountains. It is usually not very crowded but therefore a much nicer place. It is one of the best places you can come to relax. This island, which is very close to the port, is also surrounded by water, where you can rent a paddle boat and take a tour. Apart from that, it is a very nice place for hiking. With its unspoilt nature, you can see some squirrel-like animals and you can climb to the top and relax in traditional korean seating. Mokpo Skywalk,located on the Mokpo city, is one of the popular tourist destinations. This place opened 2 years ago. It’s just next to sea. In this place, which has a height of 15 meters, you can watch the famous mokpodaegyo bridge and the sea. All ground made by glass, so you can also watch sea by looking down if you dont have any afraid of height. There are also different Korean restaurants and cafes nearby. It is a short cab ride from Mokpo bus terminal or Mokpo Station. Attractions - Memorial Statues. Lush green grass and picnic sites. Kids playground. A kilometer away from Mokpo Maritime Museum and Mokpo Natural Museum. Hotels - Shangria And Fontana Beach Hotel are nearby and have sweeping views of the water. Food & Restaurants - i highly recommend Curry Story- for the best Indian food in the area. And Milky way for scrumptious dessert.

#fallingforfall Gohada Observatory is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mokpo, located in Gohada Island. It can be reached by walking down the mountain road after parking the car. Or you can come here by using a cable car. There is a cafe at the bottom of the Observatory. Here you can relax and have a snack. On the other floors, there are different photographs and observation windows. The top floor is designed in such a way that you can watch the city from a bird's eye view. #fallingforfall Gatbawi Rock is a national monument located in Mokpo City, one of the most famous landmarks of this place. It is known for its resemblance to two people wearing the traditional Korean hat, namely the satgats. With this road built on the shore of the sea, you can take a walk and take pictures here. On the one hand, the trees of the mountain that have started to change color, on the other hand, the sound of the waves of the sea is really pleasing. Getting There - 4 hours from seoul, you can take the express bus from seoul terminal or you can take the train. Attractions - the city is the famous fishing village, there is mokpo skywalk, the bridge which has crystal glass (transparent) floor, historical museum, gotbawi (rock that shapes like a korean traditional hat) and have a cruise that goes to purple island Hotels - not many big hotels, you can always experience korean style guest house in mokpo Food & Restaurants / shopping - law/fresh fish/sashimi is famous mokpo, dried fish as well, There are lots of people buying the dried fish and picked/salted seafood at the mokpo seafood market. you can visit seafood market and try market food. you can try nakji here ! #tripblazers

I went to Mokpo with my friends for a day trip. You can see the sea in front of Mokpo right from the cafe, which is really nice, and the view was really beautiful, as if you were at a resort. It was nice that you could enjoy brunch and a cafe inside the store. Has a retro feel that brings you to life.Great view of the water and it makes our feel relaxed and comfortable. Highlights - A wide variety of expensively made pies, donuts and cronuts. Extremely well put together, with high quality ingredients. I would highly recommend the Simpson's donut an cronut. The tomato basi pie and the vanilla milk has real bits of vanilla. Avg. Price per Person - 3300 krw toas muh that wont make you bankrupt. Rating - 11/10. Go early as everything gets sold out.
