Family violence is a national crisis that must be addressed. Doctors have an incredibly vital role in responding to and preventing family and domestic violence, as GPs are often the first person a victim-survivor turns to for support and advice. The AMA supports this joint statement released by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), Office of the Health Ombudsman, HPCA (Health Professional Councils Authority), and the Health Care Complaints Commission.

Consequences for health practitioners who perpetrate family violence may include conditions on their registration, suspension, cancellation, or refusal of registration.
