Makati Medical Center’s Department of Ophthalmology has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first image-guided surgical navigation (ISN) procedure for orbital surgery. The procedure was performed on a 37-year-old male patient presenting with right eye proptosis by orbit and oculoplasty consultant Dr. Ma. Donna D. Santiago. The patient underwent an en bloc excision of a retro-orbital mass through a lateral orbitotomy with a beveled bone flap, utilizing the Brainlab image-guided orbital navigation system. The procedure was completed successfully, and the final diagnosis confirmed a cavernous hemangioma. Dr. Santiago was assisted by Dr. Patricia Riego de Dios, Dr. Hezekiah Mikhail Vicente Q. Malubay, and anesthesiologist Dr. Benjamin Abela III. Benefits of Image-Guided Surgical Navigation Image-guided surgical navigation (ISN) provides three-dimensional localization of surgical instruments, enhancing preoperative planning and reducing operative complications.
