About us

The Nadira Hassan Law Department (NHLD) was established in 2013 at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore (est. 1913), under the auspices of the then Chief Justice of Pakistan, the honourable J. (R) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and the then Chief Justice Lahore High Court J. (R) Umar Ata Bandial, along with esteemed Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, then senior Lahore High Court judge and now senior puisne Supreme Court judge, and Justice Jawad Hasan of the Lahore High Court. Kinnaird College for Women stands as the first women-only law school in Punjab, providing intensive legal study and research opportunities. The NHLD offers an extensive curriculum with a special emphasis on legal writing, drafting, advocacy, and legal argumentation. As part of its vision, the NHLD aims to become one of the best-known law schools nationally and internationally by offering educational excellence and developing graduates to become effective advocates and compassionate legal counselors. The NHLD provides a five-year joint B.A. - LL.B. (Hons.) degree program designed for students seeking a challenging and rigorous interdisciplinary exposure to law and related disciplines. While focusing on the Pakistani legal system, the NHLD encourages critical and comparative approaches to broaden students’ perspectives and analytical skills.

  • In his recent address at the SECP's Insolvency and Debt Management Consultation, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah discussed the future of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in corporate insolvency disputes. He emphasized the importance of mediation and arbitration over traditional court proceedings. Justice Shah also highlighted the need for a mindset shift among lawyers and regulators towards restorative justice and the integration of ADR in law schools.     Thrilled to share that I've been awarded the Runner-Up position at the Kinnaird's 2nd Inter-Semester Moot Court Competition, hosted by our esteemed Nadira Hassan Law Department! This experience was truly a rollercoaster of excitement, learning, and growth providing me with invaluable insights into the world of legal argumentation and advocacy. It was an honor to present before a bench of extraordinary luminaries who adjudicated the final round: former Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Mr. Justice (R) Mamoon Rashid Sheikh; former Justice of the Lahore High Court, Mr. Justice (R) Shahid Jamil; Advocate Sabahat Rizvi, first woman Secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association; Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Pansota; and Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Qayyum. I would like to express my gratitude towards NHLD - Kinnaird Law School for organising such an unforgettable and thrilling competition. Hoping to have more such experiences in future.

Dean Professor Dr. Masha Asad Khan presented tokens of appreciation to the judges. Former Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Mr. J (R) Mamoon Rashid Sheikh delivered an insightful address, and the closing note was delivered through a video message by the patron of NHLD's Board of Studies and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Mr. J (R) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani.   • 𝐍𝐇𝐋𝐃 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫-𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟮 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 The final round of Kinnaird’s 2nd Inter-Semester Moot Court Competition, 2024, was a remarkable afternoon filled with learning experiences. The final round was adjudicated by a distinguished bench comprising former Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Mr. J (R) Mamoon Rashid Sheikh, former Justice of the Lahore High Court Mr. J (R) Shahid Jamil, Advocate Sabahat Rizvi (the first woman secretary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association in 150 years), Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Pansota, and Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Qayyum. Our students had the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of litigation, enhancing their advocacy skills in a real-world setting. The gentle guidance from our esteemed judges was invaluable, providing insights that will undoubtedly shape the future careers of our participants. These renowned legal minds, who also serve as visiting faculty at the Nadira Hassan Law Department, brought their wealth of experience and insight to the proceedings. Our esteemed panelists include: 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐙𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐫: A distinguished lawyer and esteemed Senator of Pakistan, Senator Zafar has authored and introduced this landmark Bill. With 40 years of experience as a senior Supreme Court lawyer, he is a renowned advocate for human rights. He served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2015-16 and is recognized for his expertise in civil and criminal law and court processes. Ms. Mehmal Sarfraz: A journalist, TV anchor, and political commentator based in Lahore. Ms. Huma Ejaz Zaman: A senior partner at a leading law firm in Pakistan, Ms. Zaman specializes in corporate, energy-related transactional work, and family law. We were pleased to have Aateka Shuja Baba, Amna Iqbal, Ayesha Khan, Habeeba Waseem, Javaria Yaqub, and Mahnoor Tariq as our distinguished judges. The day was marked by invaluable networking and learning opportunities. Many students, participating in moot court for the first time, gained practical insights into the complexities of litigation.
