The world’s 7 best-performing deposit return schemes (#DRS) have one thing in common... 💡👇 They make returning beverage containers easy.♻️ Here’s what sets them apart: 🔵 Consumers can return empty containers right where they shop 🔵 Automated reverse vending makes the process seamless This is what we call return-to-retail: a model that drives higher return rates and keeps packaging in the loop. Well-designed systems with retailer involvement make recycling more convenient, and that’s key to a truly circular system. 🔄 Watch the full video to see how it works 👉 https://lnkd.in/epZv2Ts7 https://lnkd.in/epZv2Ts7

Every year, tons of valuable materials, plastics, metals, and more, slip through the cracks of recycling. ♻️👇 Mixed waste sorting is here to change that. Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ Waste is collected like usual. 2️⃣ At the sorting facility, advanced tech scans and recovers recyclables like plastics and metals. 3️⃣ These materials are processed into high-quality raw materials, while the rest is managed responsibly. Mixed waste sorting isn’t a replacement for separate collection or deposit return systems, it’s the ultimate backup. By capturing what’s missed, it helps hit big recycling targets, like the EU’s 55% goal by 2030, while cutting emissions along the way. 💪 And it’s already working. Over 300 plants worldwide recover more than a million tons of materials every year using this process. Learn more about this process right here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dxHs78wR

The EU’s new Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) is setting the stage for stronger recycling, reuse, and circularity. 🔎💪 But what does it mean for deposit return schemes (#DRS)? 💡 Bilyana Ignatova, VP Public Affairs and Head of EU Policy at TOMRA, breaks down the new regulation, and how it impacts drink container recycling: “The PPWR recognizes DRS as an effective system for single-use and reusable beverage packaging, and provides the framework to drive performance towards 90% separate collection by 2029,” 🎯 This regulation aims to cut the environmental impact of packaging, boost high-quality recycling, and keep materials in the loop. It harmonizes rules across the EU to create a level playing field and consistent framework. ⚖️ “With the commitment and innovation of all stakeholders, we can achieve a circular future for Europe’s packaging,” says Bilyana.
