Norway’s Updates Norway has long been a global leader in renewable energy and environmental protection, and its commitment to sustainability is now extending to its construction sector. The Grønn Byggallianse (Norwegian Green Building Council) has been at the forefront of initiatives like FutureBuilt - byutvikling, klima, innovasjon, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects by at least 50% in the Oslo region. Key Updates: ✍ Whole Life Carbon (WLC) Disclosure Requirements: Since July 2023, buildings in Norway must adhere to WLC norms, ensuring that carbon emissions are considered throughout the building's entire lifecycle. This is part of an effort to implement stricter LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) guidelines. ✍ 2030 and 2050 Climate Goals: The Federation of Norwegian Construction Industries has been working closely with the government and other stakeholders to define how the sector can achieve its climate targets for 2030 and 2050. ✍ Climate Partnership Task Force: A task force is set to release a comprehensive knowledge foundation in June 2024, initiating a crucial debate on the specific actions needed to reach these climate goals in the construction industry. 🌍 Estonia’s Path to Carbon Footprint Limits 🌍 The Ministry of Climate in Estonia is making significant strides in driving sustainability within the construction sector, with a clear focus on reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. Here are the key updates: 🔛 2024: Publication of the material emission factor database and regulation of the carbon footprint calculation methodology, along with an ongoing project to establish initial limit values for emissions. 🔜 2025: Update to the material CO2 equivalent database and a new delegated act by the European Commission (EPBD) to further strengthen guidelines. 🔜 2026: The methodology will be ready for updates, ensuring it remains aligned with the latest data and sustainability goals. 🔜 2027: A roadmap will be published, detailing the introduction of limit values for the total cumulative life cycle global warming potential (GWP) of all new buildings. 🔜 2030: Full enforcement of limit values for the carbon footprint of all new buildings, pushing the construction sector towards more sustainable and climate-conscious practices.
