✅ #EV4EU. On the 15th of January I will moderate Panel 4: “Regulatory Framework for Electric Mobility: Challenges and Emerging Trends I Insights and discussion into sector regulation and policy strategies". It is an important conference on an area where Portugal was a pioneer with the project #Mobie and where there is a lot of space for development in areas such as flexible charging and V2G. The huge bet of Portugal on volatile renewable make the increase of power system flexibility mandatory and EVs can give a huge contribution. This is an area where Portugal is already relevant with companies as #icharging and #magnumcap. And there is still a huge space for development. People may no longer remember, but the #Leaf launch in Europe happened in Portugal thanks to Mobi.e. using hardware and software developed in Portugal. #ev4eu Panel 4 Moderator: Antonio Vidigal Jorge Esteves (ERSE) Filipe Pinto (DGEG - Direção Geral de Energia e Geologia) Alexandre Videira (MOBI.E) Venue: Salão Nobre, Instituto Superior Técnico, Alameda Campus (Lisbon) Full agenda and registration form: https://lnkd.in/dzZdCtRS

👏 Congratulations to Simone Striani for successfully completing his Ph.D. at DTU - Technical University of Denmark ! The thesis “EV clustering methods for flexibility service” has highly contributed to the Danish demonstration phase of the #EV4EU project. Simone's thesis will soon be available online and shared on our website under Resources! 👀 For now you can check more information 👇

A solid PhD defense today by Simone Striani. His thesis “EV clustering methods for flexibility service” will soon be publicly available at our university repository. In the meantime, you can find a selection of studies on his ORBIT page: https://lnkd.in/dvDdPi-4 Simone’s research has been highly relevant for the Danish funded ACDC and FUSE projects and is instrumental in the demonstration phase of the EU project EV4EU. A few takeaways from his work include: -) definition of indexes to quantify the flexibility potential of EV clusters -) development and testing of a distributed charging architecture -) real-life experience with smart charging Great results facilitated by the experienced guidance of supervisors Jan Engelhardt and Peter Bach Andersen. In the morning, we also had the pleasure to have a seminar with the two external examiners: Matej Zajc from University of Ljubljana and Merkebu Zenebe Degefa from University of Stavanger Finally, we are grateful to our good colleagues Yi Zong and Haris Ziras for serving as internal examiner and chairperson, respectively. 👀 📺 Check this interview with António Maria Jerónimo, a Instituto Superior Técnico student who developed his thesis under the EV4EU project and recently secured the 3rd place in #PrémioRen I REN Award! 👏 The award-winning thesis, “Modelling Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Flexibility for Long-Term Distribution Network Planning“ counted with the support of the #EV4EU team at INESC-ID, Hugo Morais and Cindy P. Guzman. 🔗 More on our website: https://lnkd.in/dfhaj6TS And in the video👇

🇸🇮 EV4EU researchers at University of Ljubljana recently presented at the 4th SAEE Conference in Slovenia. Klara Anžur and Matej Zajc had the opportunity to highlight the crucial role of demonstrators in the development of new services based on the #EV4EU article titled “Managing Electric Vehicles for a Carbon Neutral Europe: Developing Flexibility Services in a Demonstration Environment” also authored by Igor Mendek, Tim Marentič, Andreja Smole and Hugo Morais 💡The article focuses the critical role of #V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) and #V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) services in enhancing grid stability and expediting the integration of renewable energy sources, mostly focused on the #EV4EU Slovenian demonstrator. 👀 More at: https://lnkd.in/dqMNYnTp

⚡The #EV4EU team at DTU Wind and Energy Systems has tested a renewable generation-following algorithm with the charging cluster in Risø. The team's objective is to modulate the charging process of four #EVs to match the local production of two small (10 kW) wind turbines and 20-kW rooftop PV system (on a sunny and windy November day). 📽️ And this is now shown in DTU's 2-minute video showing a 30-minute operation. Check the video shared by the project researcher Mattia Marinelli 👇 🔎 These results are part of DTU - Technical University of Denmark efforts under the #EV4EU project, developed in close collaboration with Circle Consult, responsible for the charging equipment. Great work! 👏

Just like playing video games… We tested a renewable generation-following algorithm with the charging cluster in Risø. The objective is to modulate the charging process of four EVs to match the local production of our two small (10 kW) wind turbines and 20-kW rooftop PV system (on a sunny and windy November day). The 2-minute video is showing a 30-minute operation. Here is what you see in the four plots are: Top-left: Charging power reference on a 3-phase (solid black line) and 1-phase (dashed black line) level. The power consumed is displayed by the three colored bars (red – phase 1, green – phase 2, blue – phase 3). One column for each plug/EV. The car on the far right is my own LEAF, which has a 1-phase charger. Top-right: Priorities. Values from 0 to 1 defined as (requested energy - charged energy) divided by (time of departure - current time) normalized over 11 kW. Bottom-left: requested energy per car (white+blue bar) and charged energy (blue bar). Bottom-right: reference and measurements at the point of common coupling of the charging cluster. Reference power per phase (dashed lines in red, green and blue) and measured power per phase (solid lines in red, green and blue). In this test the reference power is based on the renewable production. Future tests will consider different objectives and stress-test the system with more cars. More details on the controlling algorithm in these publications: https://lnkd.in/deTV7XZE https://lnkd.in/d5QXdrd7 Several colleagues were involved in getting visualization, controllers and chargers up and running. Special mentions go to Kristoffer Pedersen and Simone Striani. These results are part of our efforts in the EU project EV4EU and of our close collaboration with Circle Consult, which developed the charging equipment. DTU Wind and Energy Systems
