[Publication alert!] 🚀 Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming public health, but the journey must be guided by equity, ethics, and strong governance. AI has the power to enhance public health surveillance, epidemiological research, communication, and resource allocation, ultimately improving efficiency and decision-making. However, realizing its full potential means addressing key challenges: 🔹 Equity – AI must work for all, ensuring inclusivity and fairness. 🔹 Accountability – Transparent regulatory frameworks are essential. 🔹 Data Privacy & Security – Robust digital infrastructures and cybersecurity must be prioritized. 🔹 Workforce Readiness – Investing in digital skills is critical. 🔹 Sustainability – AI’s environmental impact needs attention. At WHO Regional Office for Europe, we are actively working to strengthen digital health ecosystems by supporting countries in developing policy frameworks, governance structures, and capacity-building initiatives for responsible AI adoption. Aligning AI with public health goals requires continuous collaboration between governments, public health institutions, and technology partners. A big thank you to the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, particularly Dimitra Panteli and Martin McKee, for leading this important view point piece, and I’m grateful to be a co-author on this paper. Our shared goal? To ensure that AI serves the public good, upholds human rights, and enhances health outcomes for all. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of ethical and impactful AI in public health! 💡💻🌍 Link to full text: https://lnkd.in/dPfE2akV #DigitalHealth #AI #PublicHealth #HealthInnovation #Equity #WHOEurope #HealthSystems #ArtificialIntelligence
