We’re excited to announce the launch of a series of talks in partnership with The Regenerative Viticulture Foundation ! The first session will take place on November 21st at 5pm (London time), focusing on the topic of Agroforestry in Vineyards. In a nutshell: how to combine trees and vineyards to benefit soil health, ecosystems, and wine quality. As always, we’ve gathered a fantastic panel that bridges the Old World and New World of wine. Caro Feely will serve as our host and moderator, bringing her experience in fostering biodiversity at Chateau Feely, to guide the discussion and explore with our panelists how agroforestry can (or can’t) be applied in a vineyard context. Panelists: 🍇 Caro Feely (CHATEAU FEELY/France) – Host 🌿 Ted Lemon (Littorai Wines/USA) 🌿 Juliette Combe (Château Cheval Blanc /France) 🌿Canet Alain (BHBZ Agroforestry Strategy/France) 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/dMUPQqsF Can’t join live? No worries! The talk will be available on our website and wherever you listen to your podcasts. #agroforestry #wineindustry #climatesmartwine

We recently visited BODEGAS BERONIA SA, from our member González Byass ) and learned about how their new winery . Here are a few of the features of this state of the art building: - Harnessing Natural Sunlight ☀️: The building is architecturally designed to maximize daylight throughout the day, minimizing the need for artificial lighting and reducing energy consumption. - Composting with Grape Skins 🍇: They enrich the vineyards with compost made from grape skins, adding nutrients naturally and cutting down on waste. - Temperature Control with Natural Materials 🪨: Stone from the building site and cement help maintain stable indoor temperatures, reducing the need for additional heating or cooling. - Air Renewal 🌬️: Constant airflow keeps the space naturally ventilated, contributing to a fresher indoor environment. - Geothermal & Aerothermal Systems ♨️: These advanced systems provide efficient heating and cooling through hot/cold water solutions, saving energy. - Automatic Sunshades (BMS) 🌡️: High-tech blinds adjust with the temperature, creating an energy-efficient climate control system. - Innovative Barrel Cleaning 🔄: Using magnetic waves to clean barrels (inspired by Formula 1 exhaust cleaners!) extends their life by up to 12 years and reduces water use by 90%. - Water Conservation 💧: Rainwater collection systems reduce dependency on external water sources, helping save this precious resource. - Pollinator-Friendly Gardens 🐝: Aromatic gardens foster biodiversity by attracting pollinators, enhancing the vineyard’s ecosystem. It’s inspiring to see innovations like these shaping the future of sustainable winemaking! 🍷🌍 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/d6Np7dE3 #SustainableWinemaking #EcoFriendlyWine #WineWithPurpose

We haven’t yet shared just how incredible the Sustainability in Drinks event was! Over two full days, we made meaningful connections and participated in engaging activities. Our table was a fantastic hub for meeting new people, and our walking tasting with Jamie Goode allowed us to chat with a variety of attendees. Having Jamie with us felt like a presidential visit as we stopped by our members’ tables to learn about their wines and sustainability practices. We also enjoyed participating in a lively debate on packaging and were excited to (soft) launch our packaging guide to a small, enthusiastic group of communication and media professionals. Another highlight of the event was our networking session, where we introduced our upcoming project, the Zero Waste Bar Guide, in partnership with Sustainable Wine Solutions (Borough Wines), a project generously supported by @slowwine and #NegroniWeek. It was a nonstop couple of days filled with rich discussions and new connections with individuals passionate about sustainability in drinks!

Here's one of the climate solutions coming from our community: Carbon capture during fermentation. Though this only takes place for a few months, it is expensive and with few technologies to address it, the carbon that comes out of a fermentation tank is 95% pure and therefore capturing it makes environmental sense. Kudus to Maison Joseph Drouhin for being one of the few wine companies around the world taking the lead on this practice. #wineindustry #bethechange #sustainablewine

This week was all about meeting, learning and networking with change makers, giving us a boost to continue to do what we do, grow this impact network and trigger collaboration to catalyze climate action. Let us tell you about it: - We started out with an overnight stay at the beautiful La Verrière (Chêne Bleu Wines). We visited the vineyards with Nicole Sierra Rolet, a real force for good and discussed future synergies, since we both seek to foster biodiversity in the wine world. - From there we went to Arles (with a few drawbacks as we drove the roads of delightful Provence in an electric car). - On Tuesday we felt absolutely energized by the amazing talks, vibe and shared knowledge at the World Living Soils Forum, organized to perfection by Moët Hennessy and ChangeNOW. The core message was clear: the soil crisis is a health emergency. - We listened to some powerful interventions from Restor, Louise Parker , L'OCCITANE Group, amongst others. - In the evening, we hosted an informal get together with our friends at the The Regenerative Viticulture Foundation. And we it did again! We gathered a group of change makers from Serbia to Italy, from Spain to Canada, and they inspired each other. - But the best of all was the people, our people. Meeting in person (for the first and second time) some of our members and other like-minded friends, from Robert Eden to Jessica Villat , from Antonella Manuli, to Elizabeth Whitlow and Muriel Chatel, from Joan Esteve Julià to Victoria Gonzalez- Gordon. What a joy witnessing them meet , share thoughts, experiences and contacts. You see, that is how, together, we build community. The power of bringing people together with a shared purpose is amazing, and creates a ripple effect that can extend far beyond its immediate circle. That is what we thrive for at the Porto Protocol, and that is what we experienced in the last few days. Thank you Moet Hennessy for inviting us!
