🌟 Overcoming Impostor Syndrome in Business and Life 🌟 "What if they say no? What if I look stupid? I'm scared to propose this partnership. I'm anxious about sending this follow-up. I'm worried my next initiative might fail and waste resources." At every stage of my career, I've faced impostor syndrome—and I still do today. But I've found ways to overcome it. Surprisingly, the 100+ job rejections I received while applying for jobs in the U.S. as an international student helped. So did the offers I received that paid me $65k/year for what felt like 10 hours of work each day. On that note, I highly recommend reading Bentley University Professor Steven Wasserman's article in Forbes, "Hidden Talent: Case For Hiring International Master’s STEM Graduates." It highlights how hiring international students can bring immense value to companies with minimal risk. (https://lnkd.in/dTEtx95s) Now, back to my story. Whenever I'm afraid to take on a new business challenge, I think to myself: "What if I approach this like a school assignment? Just do it to the best of my knowledge." The stakes may be higher now—money instead of grades, real-world research instead of hypothetical scenarios—but this mindset has always worked for me. It's helped me navigate tight deadlines, client meetings, and high-pressure situations just like I did with schoolwork. From 24 to 26th of June 2024, I had the chance to participate in "Talent Meets Bertelsmann" 2024, an international networking event for AI enthusiasts that took place in the heart of the vibrant city of Berlin🇩🇪 I applied to TMB with low expectations of ever being accepted, but to my surprise I was one of the 58 talents that were chosen to participate out of more than 500 applicants. Throughout the past couple of days, I got the chance to work alongside seven other brilliant participants on a case study tackling financial inclusion in Mexico. It was definitely not easy to come up with an efficient financial product and buid a convincing presentation in only seven hours, but thanks to our amazing workshop hosts Stella Shen and Yuhe (York) Zhu and coach Jennifer Meindel, we made it possible. We then presented our work in front of more than 300 Bertelsmann employees, TMB alumni and current participants. The feeling of speaking on a stage with such an impressive audience was definitely empowering, and I am grateful for the chance of pitching my ideas in such an amazing context. This event definitely broadened my perspectives, allowed me to meet like-minded people and learn about the creative industries that Bertelsmann addressess through their different divisions. Big cheers to Niki Kalkanova and Pamela Taylor for organizing this event and making this experience possible. I loved every second of #TMB2024, and I cannot wait to return to the next editions as alumna!

Mount Holyoke College student Ana Maria Stan ’24 has been selected as a recipient of the “Projects for Peace” grant program, a global program that partners with educational institutions to identify and support young peacebuilders. Tips & Tricks for senior high school students that have already submitted their application to universities. Network, network, network! February is the month when your high-school counselors submit your Mid-Year report updating the admission office on your grades & school performance. However, it is your responsibility to send other updates that could add to your application. In the email, which should be structured like a formal letter, you should include the following: * Your name * Date of birth * University or applicant ID (like your Common App ID number) so that they can efficiently match the new info with your files * A clear explanation of what you’re updating * Attached documents if it is an updated or new score report or a new letter of recommendation Make it short and sweet.
