Break into Tech: If you could go back in time and give your undergraduate self one piece of career advice, what would it be? Ayo-Fisher Oluwapamilerin: "If I could go back in time and give my undergraduate self one piece of career advice, it would be to embrace learning beyond the classroom and trust the unconventional paths. I spent a lot of time unsure of where I fit in tech, thinking I needed to follow the traditional route of coding or design, but I would tell my younger self to explore different roles early on—like product management—and not be afraid to pivot. I’d remind myself that it's okay to not have everything figured out right away. Treat your career like a product, set goals, adapt to changes, and leverage every resource and connection available, because growth often happens in the most unexpected ways. Lastly, I'd emphasize the importance of balance—work hard, but don't lose sight of what truly matters in life." --- Meet Ayo-Fisher Oluwapamilerin, a driven Nigerian product manager and entrepreneur with a passion for innovation and business. He graduated with first-class honors in Computer Science from the African Leadership University in Rwanda. With over three years of experience, Ayo is currently a product manager at Hence Technologies, a legal tech startup where he applies his expertise in developing cutting-edge solutions. In this article he shares tips to help aspiring product managers as well as undergraduates across Africa grow in their tech careers.
