The Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold-chain (ACES) in Rwanda and a reference SPOKE in Kenya were developed as the launch pad for a global programme of regional Centres of Excellence to increase access to resilient, efficient and climate-friendly cooling and cold-chain for all. The programme is already being rolled into multiple markets in Africa (Senegal and Lesotho alongside Rwanda and Kenya) and India (Telangana and Haryana). Over the next three years, our global reach is planned to continue to grow driven by our team of more than 60 researchers and experts and our industry leaders, international development agencies and governments partners. Alongside the physical Centres and SPOKEs, the programme is underpinned by its website and an online knowledge and training platform to provide a central access point for all news, content, tools and training materials. It is a place where a wide variety of relevant stakeholders can convene to learn, discuss, share and teach. To support the global vision, we have created an umbrella brand for the programme – the Clean Cooling Network – under which each project will retain its national identity and country-led approach. Our objective is to promote cooling and cold-chain as critical national infrastructure and provide the tools, knowledge, training and support to deliver inclusive, equitable and future-proofed solutions with minimum environmental impact, ensuring sustainability and resilience in a fast warming and changing world. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) training workshop By The The Clean Cooling Network at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chain (ACES). This dedicated GESI training module will serve not only as a means to transfer knowledge and skills but also as an opportunity to reflect on the gaps in current strategies and advocate for inclusive practices in the cooling and cold-chain sectors. We had a chance to walk the campus, discuss with the team how we can concretely sensitize and Integrate GESI in the work for the cold-chain applications in food and health and vaccine value chain, environmental and food system policies perceptive among the others. The training covered the following topics 1) Training objectives and setting the expectations, ground rules – 2) GESI Sensitization/Fundamental concepts – Sex and Gender, Gender Roles and Intersectionality/Marginalization 3) GESI Integration introduction/entry points 4) GESI Analysis and Intersectionality 5) GESI Sensitive needs assessment 6) GESI Scoping report findings 7) Conceptual framework-Needs/Access/Participation 8) Theory of Change 9) GESI Responsive data Collection; Setting goals and Indicators 10) GESI responsive Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning 11) Safeguarding and SHEA Policies 12) Inclusive social and Business Models Participating in the #GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) training has been an eye-opening experience, reinforcing the importance of #inclusivity as a core driver for sustainable development and organizational success. Key takeaways include: #Inclusivity as Strategy: #Gender equality and social #inclusion are not just ethical obligations but strategic imperatives that enhance innovation, resilience, and community impact. Empowering Diverse #Voices: Ensuring representation and engagement of marginalized groups leads to more equitable and impactful solutions. Practical Tools for Implementation: From #policy development to workplace practices, the training provided actionable strategies to create inclusive environments. #Collaboration is Key: Meaningful change requires cross-sector partnerships, community involvement, and sustained advocacy. I am committed to applying these insights in my professional journey to foster a more inclusive and equitable future. #Together we can have a #GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) environment at workplace that can contribute to achieving goals related #SDGS, #PSTA5 and #NST2 My heartfelt thanks to the facilitators Asha Singh, Jean Baptiste Ndahetuye, Ph.D., Astrid Genard , Dalson Gace, Sonja Mettenleiter IYAKAREMYE Jean De Dieu, Ph.D. and the entire #ACES team for their invaluable support and participants for this transformative learning experience! Special thanks to Toby Peters, Natalia Falagán, Leyla Sayin, PhD and Dr Carol Verheecke-Vaessen for their inspiring contributions!

I am incredibly excited to share my experience from the inaugural Gender equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Training, held on 16-17th December, 2024, at the Africa Center of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chain ( ACES) at the Rubirizi Campus in Kigali. This training was highlighting how GESI drives innovation, enhances productivity and helps meet global climate targets. key Takeaway: Diverse perspectives innovation: Inclusive approaches unlock creative solutions in the cooling and cold chain sectors, ensuring technologies are designed for everyone, especially marginalized groups Productivity through inclusion: Empowering women and underrepresented communities leads to more equitable and efficient food, health and vaccine value chains 🌹 Climate Impact: By integrating GESI into a sustainable cooling system, we can reduce food waste, enhance resilience in vulnerable communities and cut carbon emissions🌱🌱🌱

As year come to the end , I am proud that I have got chance to be trained in Gender equality and social inclusion delivered by The Clean Cooling Network at @africa centre of excellence for cooling and cold chain (ACES). during this workshop, we learnt a lot and we got an opportunity to reflect on the gaps in current strategies and advocate for inclusive practices in our workplace. As we institutionalize GESI in our enterprise, It foster innovation, market growth and drive business success. We can incorporate GESI through MEL, Rôles, skills and capacity, ressources and policy . I am grateful to participate in this training and I want to thank our facilitator Asha Singh, Astrid Genard, Jean Baptiste Ndahetuye, Ph.D. , Dalson Gace and whole ACES team. #inclusivity not just as a responsibility but as a strategic imperative for business success #GESI #ACES #cleancoolingnetwork Toby PetersNatalia FalagánLeyla Sayin, PhD, Dr Carol Verheecke-Vaessen, Dr. Lisa Kitinoja

ICYMI earlier this week, The Clean Cooling Network published an article by Leyla Sayin, PhD and me on a new project that will address the issues of why clean cooling and cold-chain solutions are not being implemented at the required scale on-the-ground in developing and least developed countries. And more importantly, provide a practical roadmap, founded in engineering rigour, to the adoption of deliverable solutions in a rapidly warming world. #risingtemperatures #heatextremes #heatwaves #climatechangeadaptation #resilience #cleancooling #coldchains #engineering #sustainability #climatechangemitigation Article: https://lnkd.in/edtbJGwd
