Summary in English of Aktuell Hållbarhet's article below: Asker’s Head of ESG, Sanna Norman, is nominated to the award Sweden's best sustainability manager, which is presented by Aktuell Hållbarhet, a leading sustainability magazine in the Nordics. Next to Sanna, three other finalists are also named: Atusa Reza, Sindi/Brunswick, Edvard Molitor, Port of Gothenburg and Erik Wottrich, Tele2. The winner will be announced in February. The candidates in the competition have been evaluated by a jury based on four criteria: Achieved Business Value, Achieved Sustainability Value, Leadership and Innovation and Creativity. This is the tenth year that Sweden's best sustainability manager is appointed. How do you view your role as a sustainability manager? "As a sustainability manager, I see my role as a catalyst for change. It's about driving behavioural changes with a strong belief that our work has a long-term positive impact on business, people, and the environment. I believe we must be the change we want to see in the world, especially since many people and the environment do not have the opportunity to influence important issues for the future of the earth and humanity." What results have you achieved in terms of sustainability benefits? "We have, as one of the first companies in our industry, mapped and calculated emissions across our entire value chain and set science-based targets. This has enabled us to come up with solutions to reduce emissions in the product groups that generate the highest emissions." Have you made any innovative sustainability initiatives you would like to highlight? "We have engaged in development projects with suppliers to offer solutions for partially reusable operation kits. We collaborate with suppliers to reduce their energy use and switch to non-fossil energy sources."

Asker’s Head of Sustainability Sanna Norman was interviewed by the sustainability focused Swedish media Aktuell Hållbarhet about Asker’s preparations and work to comply to the new Corporate and Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) earlier this week, giving some hands-on tips to other companies. Article in Swedish only. Below is a short summary in English. Asker Healthcare Group has been preparing for the upcoming regulation for some time and is planning to adjust early. The annual and sustainability report for 2024 will follow CSRD – one year ahead of the requirements for large companies. “We have had an advantage of reporting according to GRI before and have a process for this. It is easy to understand the general requirements in the new requirements as the directive gives a lot of guidance”, Sanna says. “This is a first step, next is to work with the suppliers to understand what they do to reduce their impact, not just report what it is”, Sanna continues. With a lot of formal procedures that have to be described and approximately 500 new data points, the sustainability report will likely double in length. And the length is an issue according to Sanna. “You have to for example describe how you do the double materiality analysis in the report. At the same time, that procedure is set by the directive. It would have been better if only deviations from the methodology CSRD requires you to follow were reported and not the full methodology as that is the same for all companies and it just becomes a lot of repetition. That would have made the reports shorter, easier to read and hence more transparent”.
