🌍 Fostering equitable, sustainable scientific partnerships: a recap of the inaugural Africa-Europe CoRE Conference 🌍 👉 https://lnkd.in/dwh3b9He Over 250 researchers and academics from 49 institutions across #Africa, #Europe, and beyond gathered at STIAS: Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, #SouthAfrica, for the first Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence Conference, co-led by African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild.   ✨ Together, we explored interdisciplinary research across #health, #AI, #green transitions, and more, with a strong focus on building equitable partnerships to address global challenges like #health, #sustainability, and #innovation 🔭. 📣 Just published! Explore the Funding Landscape for Research on Health, Migration, and Displacement, 2016-2020 report. Co-developed by #WHO Health and Migration and the Department of Research for Health within the #WHO Science Division, this review of nine of the major global health research funders showed that the existing research funding landscape is insufficient to meet the urgent research gaps identified in the WHO Global research agenda on health, migration and displacement. Key findings: The review found that a total of 527 grants (396.4 million USD) were awarded by these funders, with a stagnation in funding across this period. Cluster of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Migration & Health co-leads Jo Vearey (she/her) & Soorej Jose Puthoopparambil had a productive time at the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence conference hosted by Stellenbosch University last week. Engaging with colleagues from the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) - and the incoming ARUA DG John Gyapong, The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities and other Clusters working across the AU-EU provided multiple opportunities for building new collaborations and strengthening existing relationships to further the ambitions of the CoRE-M&H. 📚✨ The CoRE in Interdisciplinary Peace Research has launched a Scientific Writing and Publishing Workshop in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, starting today, July 1st, and continuing through July 3rd, 2024. This workshop aims to build the writing and publishing skills of PhD students and early-career postdoctoral researchers in social sciences or peace and security studies, based at African universities.
