Voices of Entrepreneurs, a new series from UNCTAD Entrepreneurship Network, showcases insights of trailblazing entrepreneurs from our community. The Empretec Network, part of UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)’s efforts to support entrepreneurs worldwide, has launched two ambitious initiatives in Saudi Arabia: FintechHub and LogiHub. These two programmes are designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in financial technology (fintech) and logistics – two sectors at the heart of the country’s economic diversification efforts. By 2029, the hubs aim to benefit 900 Saudi start-up founders, with 165 entrepreneurs already taking part this year. The UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Multi-year expert meeting on Investment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship for Productive Capacity-Building and Sustainable Development will take place from 30 September to 1 October 2024 at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. The meeting will address key topics crucial to advancing sustainable entrepreneurship, #MSME growth, and the role of business development services in fostering innovation. Discussions will focus on: 🔹 The evolving landscape of MSMEs and #startups 🔹 Strategies for sustainable business development systems 🔹 The impact of digitalization and new technologies on entrepreneurship 🔹 The importance of upskilling and reskilling for future business challenges This meeting will convene key stakeholders to discuss policies and strategies for fostering inclusive and productive economic growth in line with the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals.

The first Empretec #FintechHub workshop wrapped up with participants developing fintech business ideas and pitching them to investors! Participants went through an intensive business creation process, developing fintech ideas alongside individual consultation sessions with seasoned startup founders. They also sharpened their entrepreneurial skills with the support of incredible speakers: 💡 Empretec International Master Trainers Roberto Gandara and Renato Santos 💡Salem Abu-Hammour, who shared insights into innovative fintech solutions 💡Adil Riaz, who focused on the design and development of fintech products 💡Maher Loubieh, who spoke about Hala’s growth and scaling journey 💡Moneerah AlSaber, who addressed the regulatory environment in Saudi Arabia 💡Felipe Matos 🌈, who provided expert advice on fundraising strategies The final pitch competition was judged by investors Abdullah Aldeweesh, Rakan Fadhel, and Felipe Matos 🌈, giving participants real-world experience of pitching.
