Did you know, that on this day, 65 years ago, Stockholm Arlanda Airport first opened for commercial traffic? Arlanda was built to replace Stockholm Bromma Airport, which had become too small to meet the growing demand for modern air travel. With longer runways and room for expansion, it was designed to accommodate larger aircraft and connect Stockholm to the world. SAS launched its transatlantic services from Arlanda on 26 June 1960, with a flight to New York - a significant milestone in our history. Today, all our operations from Stockholm are centralized at Arlanda.

Punctuality is a cornerstone of our commitment to customers, and we’re proud to be recognized by Cirium as one of the world’s top 10 most punctual airlines in 2024. Globally, SAS ranked 9th, making us one of only two European carriers in the top 10. We’re also thrilled to see our SkyTeam partners - Aeromexico, Delta Air Lines and SAUDI AIRLINES - leading the top three, highlighting the strength of our alliance. In Europe, SAS secured the 2nd place, with 81.4% of flights arriving on time, just 0.1% behind the top spot - a result we’re very happy with, considering the difficult weather conditions in Scandinavia.

This Holiday Season, let’s honor those who dared to dream big and made history. In 1969, Scandinavian Airlines became the first commercial airline to hire a female pilot. SAS proudly presents ‘Breaking Glass’, a film inspired by the groundbreaking story of Turi Widerøe, Bonnie Tiburzi and other female pioneers, who defied norms and inspired future generations.
