The TalBot-team recently welcomed a group of pre-school children to play a lively game of "Alias" with our robot from Furhat Robotics. Together with the children, pre-school staff and speech therapists, we’re diving into research on whether and how socially assistive robots might aid in early language development. Watching the kids engage and interact with Furhat was inspiring, and we're eager to explore the possibilities of technology in supporting educational and developmental goals. Our study, "𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘵'𝘴 𝘎𝘢𝘻𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘙𝘐?", is now published! 👀🤖 🔍 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This work investigates whether a robot's gaze can influence entrainment. We explore the relationship between gaze behavior and entrainment in HRI in four linguistic dimensions - lexical, syntactic, semantic, and acoustic-prosodic. 📈 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: We observed that 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘢𝘻𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 by the robot (instead of constant staring) enhance entrainment on lexical and acoustic-prosodic levels, suggesting that human-like gaze behavior can lead to entrainment in HRI.
