Om oss

Much has changed since Holmen started out 400 years ago. What was once a manual craft is now all high-tech, but one thing remains constant: our passion for paper and paperboard. As a part of the Holmen Group, our business is centered around the forest ecocycle and the renewable products we can create from it. Across our four production facilities in Sweden and the UK (Iggesund, Hallstavik, Braviken and Workington) we use fresh fibers from sustainably managed forests to produce premium paperboard and innovative paper products suitable for various packaging solutions and graphical applications. Our conscious customers appreciate our products for their unique properties and low climate impact.

Finding the perfect paper is a fascinating process where you have to consider a number of factors: brightness, whiteness, surface roughness and stiffness. Holmen Board and Paper's bulk advantage allows you to purchase fewer tonnes of paper without sacrificing thickness. This means you buy less paper, resulting in lower carbon dioxide emissions from production and distribution. 💡 Learn more and explore our paper types: https://hubs.ly/Q02YcmkN0

Last month, we joined our partners at Business Sweden and co-exhibited at Tokyo Pack – Asia’s largest international packaging show! Hashimoto Koji, our Holmen Board and Paper representative, had a busy time at the show. Over three days, hundreds of visitors from several different industry sectors visited the stand. One of the highlights for us was contributing to the “Sweden Packaging Innovation Seminar,” with a presentation on Swedish forestry and a live streaming session straight from our nursery in Friggesund, Sweden. Swipe through the slides below for some snapshots and to learn about Koji’s key takeaways from the show.

🌱 Sweden’s forests now hold twice the wood volume compared to the 1920s, thanks to responsible and innovative forest management. 🌱 70% of Sweden’s surface area is covered by forests, while only 3% is built-up. 🌱 This invaluable resource supports 140,000 jobs across the country and delivers climate benefits more than double Sweden’s own emissions. As part of the “Power to Make a Difference” initiative by the Swedish Forest Industries, Holmen is dedicated to continue on responsibly managing our forests and land to deliver fossil-free products and sustainable energy — crucial contributions to both the climate and society. UK-based photographer Nick Guttridge has used Incada to share his take on the theme “Touching Tomorrow” in our paperboard sample box. In his images, he drew on an extensive experience of photographing architecture around the world. The sample box aims to inspire brand owners in making the right material selection and invites them to be part of what’s next in packaging. To make his images truly come alive, we partnered with the print and finishing experts at DREYER KLICHE, Foilco, Aksell, Åtta.45 Tryckeri AB and Delta Neo. Which sample is your favourite?

🍫 Chocolate lovers – look this way! 🍫 This award-winning packaging for Malmö Chokladfabrik is made on Invercote Creato and features a design that’s a little more eye-catching than your ordinary chocolate packaging. Utilizing Invercote Creato’s characteristics to a maximum, Pond Design and Nordic Carton AB have come up with a colourful packaging featuring printed information on both sides, glossy UV varnish, foiling and an open-and-close mechanism that is easy to understand. “We needed a paperboard with good printing properties on both sides. Since the construction also required a smooth and strong material with optimal folding characteristics, Invercote Creato was the perfect choice for this job”, comments Per-Oscar Nilsson, Sales Manager at Nordic Carton at Nordic Carton. Over the past month, the stylish packaging for Malmö Chokladfabrik has gained recognition across the globe. It was the winning entry in the “Luxury Packaging” category at the Packnorth Award, which took place at Scanpack in Gothenburg. Shortly after, it also received a bronze medal in the “Food” category at Pentawards in London. 📸 Pond Design & Nordic Carton AB
