Today's online expert conference marks a finalisation of the URBFRAIL project - Revitalisation of inner-urban freight rail hubs! It has explored how the use of rail freight hubs can be increased in urban areas. A big thank you to the excellent speakers and all other project partners for their contributions to this event and to all attendees for your participation and engagement! In this DAC demonstrator we take a really heavy train, use it on very challenging tracks in the harshest weather possible and drive it 300 000 km over 2 years. All to make sure the technology is reliable for all types of traffic. The tests in Sweden plays a vital role in the development and authorization process of DAC. Starting off a test period with really challenging conditions. ⚖️ 3800 tonnes 🛤️1000 km one-way ❄️ Down to -35 C° 🕑 2 years With expectations on higher safety, better working environment, higher efficiency and more benefits that the technology enables, Björn Landström, project manager at Green Cargo is happy to finally be starting. "We and SSAB are very confident that this is a viable future solution that will help us a lot." Jonas Eriksson, project manager at Rail Sweden, states "in particular, how seals and rubber parts cope with this climate is what the suppliers of the couplings are most interested in." Banbrytande teknik möter Sveriges tyngsta godståg! 🚆 Vi på Green Cargo är stolta över att vara en del av utvecklingen av digitala automatkoppel (DAC) i det europeiska projektet FP5 TRANS4M-R. Just nu testas teknologin på SSAB:s stålpendel mellan Luleå och Borlänge. Med tågvikter upp till 3 800 ton och en sträcka på över 1 000 kilometer ställs DAC-tekniken inför extrem kyla och tuff terräng. Testerna är en viktig milstolpe för att öka säkerheten, effektivisera godstrafiken och stärka järnvägens konkurrenskraft. För att integrera ett demotåg i reguljär trafik krävs ett nära samarbete mellan flera aktörer. Trafikverket ansvarar för testningen och förberedelserna av demotåget, medan projektet leds av Rail Sweden vid Lindholmen Science Park. SMP Svensk Maskinprovning bidrar med mätningar och förberedelser inför testerna. We are very happy to introduce a new member of the Rail Sweden team! Who are you and what will you focus on? - My name is Karl Bertilsson and live in the beautiful port city Gothenburg. I recently joined Rail Sweden at Lindholmen Science Park where I will be focusing on the seamless operations of freight trains in the Europe's Rail project FP5 TRANS4M-R. How did you get interested in rail? - I've always enjoyed travelling by train, but it was after graduating university and joining Trafikverket as an analyst in capacity planning and railway services where my interest in rail found its home, and grew. I've always had a keen interest in sustainability and mobility, and there are so many possibilities with railway transports! What is a fun fact about you? - I'm a real lover of the Swedish pastry semla (or fat Tuesday bun), which normally is served around Shrove Tuesday, and although unconventional, I'm happy that some bakeries have started to sell them already after the Christmas holidays! Early testing of energy and data functionalities By using a reference test system, early testing of energy and data functionalities is enabled for the digital freight train with the Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC). This system will pilot as a digitalization hub with many functions that the locomotive will later have. The system will be continuously updated with the latest components developed in FP5 TRANS4M-R, to represent the future architecture of the digital freight train. This means that we can use it to validate interoperability of final solutions by showing that all components from different suppliers are compatible with the reference test system. Tests are ongoing in the train test lab in Spandau and we are exited to see the progress!
