Many people still try to understand why there is a need for diesel outboards in the marine industry. Simply put, it fills a gap between diesel inboards and gasoline outboards.
OXE Marine is featured in this article by Skippo - The boatlife company, (translated)
"Powering large, heavy boats with diesel engines is in many ways the only sensible alternative. Higher efficiency, better torque and lower fuel consumption are some reasons to choose diesel over petrol. Lower emissions in general and the ability to run on, for example, HVO are other arguments in favour. But since outboards are often a more flexible alternative than inboards, some professional groups have still chosen petrol outboards. Some because they want a higher top speed, but many probably choose it because they can replace the engines more quickly if they break down and to be able to do smoother service."
We would also add that with an outboard, you free up much needed space onboard the deck as you eliminate the need for a bulky engine room as well as minimizing vibrations onboard, for example, an aluminium hull.
