This just in!📣 Freedom House has released its report "Freedom in the World 2025: The Uphill Battle to Safeguard Rights". Position Green's human rights experts Erika S., Letícia Yeboah, and Brady Flynn have contributed to the important analysis covering the Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish geographies. Let's dive into some key takeaways from the report: 💡 Global freedom declined for the 19th consecutive year in 2024. 💡 During an unprecedented year of elections, many contests were marred by violence and authoritarian efforts to restrict voters' choices. 💡 While conflicts spread instability and thwarted democratic progress, other positive developments showed the potential for breakthroughs. Breaking news!📣 The European Commission has published its omnibus proposals to simplify EU sustainability reporting rules. Here are the top headlines, straight from our Brussels experts Julia Staunig and Ramona V. 📊 Who will need to report? Only companies with 1000+ employees and either €50M+ turnover or €25M+ balance sheet total will need to report if the proposal is adopted. A voluntary SME reporting standard, VSME, will be used as support for developing voluntary standards for the rest of the companies no longer in scope. Banks and CSRD companies that need data from their business partners and suppliers for their own reporting will be forced to limit their ESG data requests to the content of the VSME. Suggested CSRD timeline changes ▪️ No delay for the largest companies already reporting under NFRD ▪️ Two-year delay for large unlisted companies Key changes proposed to the CSRD ▪️ Fewer data points to simplify ESRS ▪️ Sector-specific ESRS scrapped ▪️ Keeping limited assurance and dropping reasonable assurance ▪️ Double materiality remains unchanged Key changes proposed to the EU Taxonomy ▪️ Legal reporting only required for CSDDD-scope companies ▪️ Simplification of reporting templates and DNSH criteria Other key changes proposed ▪️ CSDDD postponed to 2028 and due diligence limited to direct suppliers ▪️ CBAM exemptions for importers under 50t of goods and simplified reporting 🔮 What's next? The European Parliament and Council will discuss and adopt any changes. The timeline? Uncertain. Some political battles are likely. Some elements, for example the delay in the timeline of the CSRD, might be adopted quicker than other proposed changes. Once adopted, national transposition follows. But until then, current laws still apply. Want to make sense of it all? Join our upcoming omnibus webinar in March: https://lnkd.in/dhzVHiRC
