Om oss
The SCC Arbitration Institute (SCC) provides dispute resolution services to the Swedish and international business communities. The SCC is part of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce since 1917 and has acquired extensive experience in dispute resolution over a period of nearly 100 years. The SCC was recognized in the 1970's by the United States and the Soviet Union as a neutral centre for the resolution of East West trade disputes. Also China recognized the SCC as a forum for resolving international disputes around the same time. The SCC has since expanded its services in international commercial arbitration and has emerged as one of the most important and frequently used arbitration institutions worldwide. #stockholmarbitration #sccplatform #internationalarbitration #commercialdisputes #investmentdispute #commercialdisputeresolution

🌟 Thank you to Sveriges Bolagsjurister(Swedish Company Lawyers Association) for a fantastic year of collaboration! We are grateful for the many ways we have worked together throughout the year. One highlight was our seminar in November, where we explored the art of drafting good dispute resolution clauses. 👉 Clarity is key in dispute resolution clauses – as for all contract clauses. Even small ambiguities can lead to big uncertainties. An example: "Should the parties fail to come to an agreement, all disputes and controversies except for those under jurisdiction of ordinary courts are subject to arbitration. Location of arbitration – Stockholm, Sweden." This type of language can leave parties and arbitrators uncertain, making the dispute resolution process less efficient. ✔️ Conclusion: use the dispute resolution clauses on our website. We thank the members from Sveriges Bolagsjurister(Swedish Company Lawyers Association) for taking such an active part of this important conversation. Looking forward to our future collaboration in 2025!

✨ Meet our Secretary General, Caroline Falconer! ✨ What do you do for work? - Everything and nothing! As the Secretary General of the SCC, I truly have the best job in the world—I promise! I have the privilege of leading a top-notch team to deliver world-class dispute resolution services. My role is incredibly dynamic, from shaping the future of dispute resolution and tackling complex issues in ongoing arbitrations to engaging with both domestic and international business and arbitration communities. Only by fully understanding businesses’ needs can the SCC stay modern, innovative, and cost-efficient—and help businesses thrive. And thriving businesses are what we’re all about. Christmas is in a few days: What do you wish for Christmas? - My list is long, but near the top is seeing more than 216 cases initiated at the SCC this year. That would break our all-time record from 2009—and it’s (almost) within reach! What's something you didn't know about the SCC before you started working with us? - Before joining the SCC, I didn’t realize just how global its reach is. In Sweden, we know it as a trusted forum for Nordic as well as East-West disputes. But after joining, I was amazed to see the complete picture—cases involving parties from all corners of the world, even large-scale domestic disputes from countries far beyond Sweden. The SCC has a truly amazing position in the world. If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be? - Travel is part of my work, and I often imagine during my trips how different the world would be if we could teleport to where we need to go. Skipping flights and trains would be a dream (especially since I’ve learned the hard way that sleeping on trains is not my strong suit). I’m not sure teleportation counts as a skill, but—beam me up, Scotty!

Last week saw the conclusion of a modernized version of the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT). The SCC Arbitration Institute is one of the arbitration institutions entrusted with the resolution of disputes under the ECT. SCC Board member Barton Legum took part in an important discussion organized by the International Energy Charter Secretariat on Energy Transition Disputes under the Modernized Energy Charter Treaty on behalf of the SCC. According to Bart, while all participants in the panel hailed the reforms implemented by the modernized treaty, each noted the important role for participants and institutions in ECT arbitrations to make sure that the policy goals behind the new treaty are realized.
