Are residents willing to participate in the management of urban green spaces? In light of the enhanced demand for recreational services in urban green spaces (UGS), particularly driven by global events like the COVID-19 pandemic, a research project seeks to explore the influence of adaptive and participatory governance on UGS management. The location for this research is Umeå, a city with untapped potential for UGS expansion. Join our next Urban Forests webinar to hear more about this project from PhD student Pedro Obregon Santander, from the Department of Forest Economics at SLU. 📆 5 Dec ⏰ 15-16 CET 💻 Webinar on Zoom 🔗 Sign up: https://lnkd.in/ey4whSTS After the seminar, there will be a discussion and questions from the audience. We continue to introduce our speakers at the conference Getting our Cities Right, 18-19 Nov. Remember to sign up before 5 Nov! The conference and workshops are free, including lunches and dinner. You will be given unique insights into transdisciplinary research, collaboration and practice. On the 18 November we will listen to 🎙️ Terry Hartig, Professor in Environmental Psychology at Uppsala University What will you talk about at the Getting our Cities Right conference? – In the brief time allotted to me, I will talk about a framework for understanding relations between the natural environment, the experience of nature, and the health of people living in cities. Outside of the time allotted to me, I can imagine discussing many interesting topics with the people who will attend the conference, not least the question of how we can know when we have gotten a city right.. What in the programme are you curious to learn more about? – As far as the programme goes, it all looks interesting to me. Then of course there is all that I can hope to learn from the informal conversations outside of sessions. 👉 Read the full programme and sign up: https://lnkd.in/e8eXqbUq #gettingourcitiesright #urbanlandscapes #environmentalpsychology #urbanhealth #urbanhealthscapes #urbanfutures #research #publichealth #folkhälsa #transdisciplinary SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Uppsala University

We continue to introduce our speakers at the conference in Alnarp, 18-19 Nov. ✅ Last day to register: 5 Nov 💰Price: Free ✍🏼 Register: https://lnkd.in/e8eXqbUq In our first keynote session, you will hear: 🎙️Burcu Yigit Turan Senior Lecturer at the Department of Urban and Rural Development, SLU What will you talk about at the ‘Getting our Cities Right’ conference? – It has been several decades since Swedish planning, design policies, research, and practice embraced the paradigm of ”sustainable urban development,” with the goal of addressing segregation. Yet, despite the ‘feel good’ language of sustainability, racialized socio-spatial injustices continue to deepen every day. This presentation seeks to challenge the dominant narratives of sustainable urban development by shedding light on subordinated narratives and imaginaries, and to offer a more nuanced understanding of how sustainable urbanism can either perpetuate or resist injustice. #gettingourcitiesright #urbansustainability #socialsustainability #equity #urbanism #urbanlandscapes #research #forskning #tvärvetenskaplig #landskapsarkitektur #landscapearchitecture

We continue to introduce our speakers at the conference in Alnarp, 18-19 Nov. In our first keynote session, you will hear: 🎙️Kes McCormick, Professor of Business Development and Sustainable Innovation at SLU What will you talk about at the Getting our Cities Right conference? - I plan to talk about and reflect on ongoing European projects on nature-based solutions focusing in on the role of governance and experimentation. The European projects range from a focus on urban nature plans as a mechanism to bring nature and biodiversity into city planning to nature-based solutions in a landscape perspective to climate adaptation and nature-based solutions in regions. What in the programme are you curious to learn more about? - The programme is a great mix of sessions, activities and speakers. I think that SLU Urban Futures is creating an agenda-setting event. I am curious to learn more about the different perspectives on shaping urbanscapes – from health, to energy, to water, to nature. 👉 Sign up before 5 Nov: https://lnkd.in/e8eXqbUq #gettingourcitiesright #urbanlandscapes #naturebasedsolutions #urbanfutures #urbanlandscapes #urbanfoodscapes #urbanhealthscapes #urbanenergyscapes

Let us introduce our speakers at our November conference in a little more depth. In our first keynote session, we are happy to welcome Lisa Diedrich back to Alnarp. Together with her colleague Gini Lee from the University of Melbourne she will talk about how urban conditions in many metropolitan regions in the global south are marked by growing informal settlements, growing inequalities, and socio-spatial fragmentation. 🌎 And many of them are influenced by water, through unpredictable weather and accelerating climate change. 🌊 🌧️ Join the conference in November to learn more about Urban Waterscapes, as well as Urban Energyscapes, Urban Foodscapes, Urban Healthscapes and Urban Forestscapes! 👀 As you might have guessed we place an urban landscape perspective on our global sustainability challenges. You will learn more about this on the 18th and 19th of November! Hope to see you then, on one of the days, or both! 📆 18 -19 Nov ✅ Last day to register: 5 Nov 💰 Price: Free of charge ✍🏼 Register: https://lnkd.in/e8eXqbUq #urbanlandscapes #gettingourcitiesright #urbandevelopment #stadsutveckling #landskapsarkitektur #landscapearchitecture #waterscapes #globalsouth #buenosaires #hållbarstad #urbansustainability

👁️🗨️ One interesting researcher at SLU to keep an eye on is Hussein Khalil. His research focuses on improving human and ecosystem health by studying the pathways that link eco-environmental, infrastructural, socioeconomic, and behavioral factors, especially in low-income urban settings. On the 3rd of December, 08:00, you can join SLU Future One Health's breakfast club and hear more about Hussein's work. ☕ Participatory Research and One Health: Uplifting urban slums in Brazil The talk will address an ongoing multi-partner project in the city of Salvador, Brazil, where researchers work with local stakeholders and (especially young) residents to improve health outcomes in low-income urban areas. Through the lens of One Health, the project implements and evaluates a range of activities and interventions to improve environmental quality as well as animal and human health. 👉 Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dH5C235m #SLUFutureOneHealth #urbanhealth #onehealth #urbanslums #participatoryresearch #urbanfutures SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
