📅 Datum: 20 mars. 📍 Plats: Arena Sergel, Malmskillnadsgatan 36, Stockholm. Evenemanget sänds även online. 💡 Anmäl dig här: https://bit.ly/3QvveP4 Arrangörer är SIWI Swedish Water House, Vi-skogen och UN Global Compact Network Sweden. #Vatten #BiologiskMångfald #Klimatlösningar

SIWI is sad to learn about the recent passing of freshwater champion and 2019 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate, Dr Jackie King. For her commitment to raising awareness of the value of rivers and their importance for millions of people, Dr King was highly regarded by academics and water managers globally. In its citation for the 2019 Stockholm Water Prize, the Nominating Committee noted that “Dr King has, through scientific rigour, selfless dedication and effective advocacy, transformed the way we think, talk and work with water as a flow of and for life.” Read the interview with Dr King from when she was awarded the Stockholm Water Prize: ▶️ https://bit.ly/42rVIIz

In late 2024, Katie Goldie-Ryder, Tania Martinez-Cruz, and myself put together a working paper "Supporting the Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in Transboundary Water Cooperation", with the support of the International Centre for Water Cooperation and the UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility. Link: https://lnkd.in/dctDNX3n The purpose of the working paper was to highlight the important but often forgotten role and presence of Indigenous Peoples in many transboundary water basins and pull together ideas and thoughts on how their inclusion may be improved. It draws on reflections and experiences of supporting Indigenous Peoples in global and regional policy dialogues, whether as non-Indigenous (Katie and David) or Indigenous (Tania) professionals. Recommendations from the working paper are quite timely, especially given calls for better coordinated system-based approaches for addressing climate challenges, including across basins. Such system based approaches will necessarily need to better include and empower Indigenous voices. The theme of World Water Week 2025 is Water for Climate Action and I hope that the WWW will provide an important forum for furthering the inclusion of Indigenous voices in cooperation processes at many levels.
