Was it a clash of brilliance, a lively debate, or a harmonious meeting of minds between two of Sweden's foremost innovation ecosystems? Stockholm, standing out as a hub for its dynamic tech scene, and Uppsala, a leader in life sciences, joined forces in an engaging discussion. Moderated by Harry S. and Maria Uzhegova, the conversation brought together the Managing Director of STUNS Life science Björn Arvidsson in Uppsala and Naimul Abd, CEO of Connect Sverige Region Öst, CEO of SweBAN - Swedish Business Angel Networks and Regional Director of Startup Grind Nordics. Their dialogue highlighted the distinct strengths of each region while uncovering exciting opportunities for collaboration and innovation. What an incredible week! On 2-4 December, Baltic Impact Accelerator participants from 🇸🇪 🇪🇪 🇱🇻 🇫🇮 gathered in Uppsala for the Collaboration Event, uniting inspiring minds and innovators dedicated to sustainable development and entrepreneurship. Over these three days, we engaged in various sessions, including advice and tips for start-ups, led by Stina Wallmark, Investment Manager at Voima Ventures, Patrik Rindstål, Managing Partner at Lindahl Uppsala (Advokatfirman Lindahl), Zane Valujeva, Corporate Sustainability Strategist at KIIND Agency (Denmark), as well as meaningful discussions, workshops, team-building activities and networking opportunities - all aimed at fostering growth and collaboration. A special highlight was the International Sustainability and Start-Up Summit, supported by Region Uppsala, which brought together startups and professionals from the Central Baltic Region. We are sincerely grateful to our incredible speakers who shared their expertise: Patrik Hedlund, Industry Insight Manager at Ericsson, Francisco Penayo, R&D Manager at Hitachi Energy, Per Andersson, Project & Program Manager at Telia Cygate, Jinqin Yang, Sustainability Manager at Splitvision (who also shared an incredible session earlier on doing business in Sweden as a foreigner), William Brant, Co-Founder of Altris AB and Associate Professor at Uppsala University (William also was a keynote speaker – a special thank you for your inspiring words!), Lotten Juhlin, Sustainability Strategist at Vinnova, Anna Vuorio, Post-Doctoral Researcher at LUT University, Jurijs Dubatovka, Project Manager at Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Latvijas Tirdzniecības un rūpniecības kamera), Svitlana Baliuk, Project Developer at Sustainability InnoCenter, Susanna Schumacher, Project Manager at Uppsala kommun and Cristina Paun, Co-Founder, Peafowl Plasmonics AB. The engaging presentations by Björn Arvidsson (Managing Director, STUNS Life science ) and Naimul Abd (CEO, Connect Sverige Region Öst; CEO, SweBAN - Swedish Business Angel Networks) unforgettable, as were their discussion. We were excited to organize a pitching session during the summit, where participants of the BIA program presented their companies, showcasing their innovative ideas and the impact they are making in the sustainability space. We were also delighted to have Carl Johan Björkwall from Business Sweden, who connected with many participants during the summit’s networking moments. And, of course, the moderation by Harry S. and Maria Uzhegova made the event run smoothly and kept everyone engaged. And a big thank you to the entire Sustainability InnoCenter team for making it a reality (Harris Stamatopoulos, Svante Sändström, Svitlana Baliuk, Oleksandr Fomichov). ♻ How can we reduce textile waste and promote the re-use of textiles? What kinds of new or improved business models, services, and solutions can help companies achieve these goals? 💡 Last Wednesday, we reached a milestone in our "ReDesign Textile Business: Prototype & Test Your Idea!" journey with the final prototyping workshop of the Baltic2Hand project! 🌟 Twelve innovative companies showcased their prototypes, sharing their key learnings and next steps for advancing their solutions. We were also heard an inspiring keynote from Mikko Siukosaari, Ninyes Inc on prototyping resale solutions, adding even more depth to the day’s discussions. It was truly inspiring to see the progress made and hear the valuable insights gained throughout this process. Together, we’ve taken important steps toward creating a more sustainable future. 💪 But the journey doesn’t end here – next spring, we’ll shift our focus to piloting these solutions! 🚀 #Baltic2Hand #TextileReuse #CircularEconomy #CentralBalticProgramme Baltic2Hand is funded by an Interreg Central Baltic Programme 2021-2027 project that is co-funded by the European Union.

In late October, the iResilience project officially launched with a kick-off meeting in Stockholm, Sweden. This two-day event brought together partners from 4 countries to begin an actual journey toward enhancing societal resilience in times of crisis. The iResilience’s mission is to strengthen public protection capacity through a partnership that unites a broad range of expertise and good practices. Leading the project is Sustainability InnoCenter from Sweden, influencing with its work in holistic development, innovation, and good governance practices. The Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation adds value through its experience in mobilizing civil society and its focus on e-governance. American University of Armenia brings academic expertise in resilience within conflict and post-conflict contexts. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s @SciencePark Kyiv National Economics University provides cutting-edge knowledge in combating disinformation using advanced technologies like artificial intelligence. Sasha Fomichov, project manager at Sustainability InnoCenter, reflected: "By uniting diverse perspectives from our partners, we’re able to tackle the multifaceted challenges of resilience with innovative and inclusive approaches. This partnership is a testament to the power of cross-sector collaboration to strengthen democratic values and media literacy globally." As the project moves forward, each partner will host specialized events tailored to their expertise, ranging from social resilience hackathon in Sweden to open lectures and podcasts creation in Armenia, media literacy training in Estonia and testing advanced machine learning models to counteract disinformation in Ukraine. The project will culminate in an online conference to share its results and outcomes like resilience roadmap with a wide audience. This project is funded by the Swedish Institute (Svenska institutet). Vahram Ter-Matevosyan Iti Aavik @TetianaKmytiuk Svitlana Baliuk Svante Hagström #FundedbySI
