  • 💬Let’s Talk About Measuring Carbon Impact 🌱 The crux of a good carbon project is accurately understanding how much carbon a landscape can capture. Above-ground biomass (AGB) is the key metric—it measures the total mass of living plant material above the soil, which determines a forest’s carbon storage potential. The success of a carbon project often hinges on the reliability of this single number. Yet getting it right is a challenge because ー surprise, surprise ー we still lack comprehensive data on forests.🌳 At 3T, we take this seriously. Check out the latest photos from our team in Ghana, where we’re conducting a forest inventory—randomly sampling plots to ensure accuracy. This rigorous approach allows us to calculate carbon sequestration with confidence, ensuring all stakeholders can trust in our project’s impact. Curious to learn more about our Ghana project? DM us!

🌳Milestone Achieved🌳 📢We’re excited to share that the pilot phase of our agroforestry project in Rwanda🇷🇼 has been successfully completed! This milestone marks yet another advancement in our mission of advancing landscape restoration across Africa. We launched our 100-ha pilot in the Northern region to test key interventions and fine-tune our approach. Thanks to the outstanding leadership of our Country Director, Felix, and our dedicated local staff, we’ve already planted 22,000 native trees in the pilot area. Looking ahead, 3T Rwanda is on track to restore 52,000 ha of degraded land by 2030 and 100,000 ha by 2035, boosting climate resilience and supporting community livelihoods through agroforestry.🌳 Rwanda has faced significant deforestation driven by the demand for firewood and other forest products. At 3T, we’re committed to reversing this trend by increasing tree cover and promoting sustainable agriculture through agroforestry for long-term climate resilience. Interested in learning more about our Rwanda project? Feel free to DM us!

🌍 That’s a wrap! 🌱 Last week, 3T wrapped up an incredible journey with the Biodiversity Accelerator+ by Silverstrand Capital at COP16 in Cali, Colombia. We closed out the accelerator with a 5-minute pitch before an audience of investors and leading practitioners in the nature-based space. The response was phenomenal—especially from fellow practitioners who understand the complexity and importance of building impactful, on-the-ground projects 🌳 For any startups in biodiversity and nature-based solutions, we can’t recommend this program highly enough. Check out the Biodiversity Accelerator+ website below and stay tuned for the next cohort invitation! https://lnkd.in/gbaPjEud #COP16 #NatureBasedSolutions #Biodiversity #3T

At 3T, creating a better future also means sharing our journey with the next generation. Recently, our co-founder Ian Shimizu-Pughe spoke to students at The Innovation Fellowship, a pioneering school in Tokyo, Japan 🗼 The best part? The students ended up inspiring us. Their bold visions and energy give us even more drive to push our work forward 🌳

Huge thank you to Ian Shimizu-Pughe for being our guest speaker of the month! Ian is the co-founder of Three Trees (3T), a startup working with local communities to create diverse forests that capture carbon and expand habitats. 3T's scale is impressive—undertaking reforestation efforts across multiple regions in Africa, with a team based in Japan, Singapore, and Africa. Given Ian's background in sustainability, two of our students—one interested in living architecture and the other in marine conservation—presented their projects. What followed was a thoughtful discussion about the hidden values that underpin living architecture, how planting forests can save our oceans, and how carbon credits work. Ian also shared his journey from high school to today, reflecting on the importance of asking, "Do I feel satisfied with what I'm doing?" even when the work gets difficult. Thank you again, Ian, for visiting! We look forward to reconnecting soon! 🌱

Check out this beauty 🌱 Planted earlier this year at our pilot site in Ghana, she’s part of a cohort with an impressive 90% survivability rate 🎉 This is a "Millettia Thonningii," known as "Oprono" in Twi. Locally, it’s been used for everything from maintaining healthy gums to enriching the local ecosystem. No one wants to cut down trees. The problem lies in the local economic context, which forces people into situations where they have to cut down trees — in order to feed their families or send their kids to school. We’re turning that formula around, one tree, one project, one community at a time. We’re building restorative economies that achieve prosperity by restoring, not degrading, nature. 📸 by Enok

🗞️ 3T in the news! Our CEO, Ian, was quoted in The Straits Times after 3T participated in welcoming 22 Singapore-based companies to Ghana, in a visit organized by Enterprise Singapore, to explore carbon credit opportunities. Singapore and Ghana’s bilateral agreement allows Singaporean companies to offset up to 10% of taxable carbon emissions with Ghanaian Article 6 credits. 3T is eager to support this with high-quality, nature-based carbon removal credits, rich in biodiversity and community benefits, generated through our projects. 🌳 While forest restoration isn’t yet eligible under the bilateral agreement, we’re optimistic that ARR projects will be included in future revisions 🙂 https://lnkd.in/gw_AMHsZ #CarbonCredits #NatureBasedSolutions #Restoration
