We were delighted to welcome The Law Society of Singapore‘s Family Law Practice Committee (FLPC) and lawyers from the Malaysian Bar’s Family Law Committee (FLC) at our Singapore office on 28 November 2024.   Hosted by our Partner Bernice Loo and Senior Associate Gloria T., the insightful session began with Bernice giving an overview of the law on ancillary matters in Singapore, followed by Gloria presenting on the latest developments on ancillary matters in Singapore. This was followed by a moderated discussion between the Singaporean and Malaysian lawyers on the similarities and differences in the family law legislation across both jurisdictions.   We were especially honoured to have Justice Evrol Mariette Peters in attendance, who joined the delegation during their visit to Singapore. In today's digital age, social media platforms offer unprecedented opportunities for journalism and content creation. However, this also brings about significant challenges related to copyright protection and infringement.   Dr Stanley Lai, SC, Head of our Intellectual Property Practice, and Associate Linda Shi were invited by SPH Media to speak on this important topic to their journalists. During the session, they provided insights on the complexities of copyright law in the context of social media use, unauthorised sharing of content (and whether the defence of fair use could apply), and how journalists can traverse this landscape. A key outcome from COP29 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is a new global finance goal to help countries protect themselves against climate disasters. Carbon markets and transparency in climate reporting were also addressed. We are honoured to once again be recognised for our leading position in the region by Chambers and Partners in its 2025 rankings.
