Today is #KisanDiwas, also known as National Farmers' Day! As it is celebrated in India on 23 December, let us honour the invaluable contributions of farmers and recognise their efforts in sustaining our economy and enabling food security. The Arukah team travelled to Jhansi, India last week, verifying that first payments for participation in our ongoing projects have reached smallholders farmers involved in Project Oasis. This household biogas carbon credit project, is a first in the world with full transparency from per-farmer/digester real-time data and digital MRV to per-farmer payments. Compensation of the #smallholderfarmers – whose role is often overlooked in this green transition – is a key feature of Arukah’s carbon project design. Project Oasis features a #Corsia eligible carbon credit methodology, but to our knowledge none of the live projects in market currently compensate farmers financially. In contrast, Arukah has built into our model fully traceable digital transactions to disburse payments to farmers regularly for climate work that has been quantified and verified at the farmer-level via real-time IoT sensors, assuring buyers and investors globally, over 3807 km away from hyper local installation, that social and environmental impact are achieved as claimed. Based on rigorous randomised controlled trial research by economists and affiliates from the award-winning Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), we believe direct cash transfers (https://lnkd.in/euxswGb) are a critical and overlooked tool in #povertyalleviation. These first payments are just the beginning - and have been 2 years in the making, with valuable inputs from partners and collaborators along the way. Thank you to Stellapps Technologies Private Limited and mooPay Private Limited for early product feedback and testing with farmers and dairies - Rahul Mallick Swati Hegde Ranjith Mukundan. Thank you Atul Mittal, Prashant Khanna and Balinee Milk Producer Company Ltd for on the ground collaboration for initial rollout. We look forward to future collaborations in the new year and scaling up Project Oasis across India - and more markets to come. About us
Arukah targets Gigaton-scale decarbonisation and $100 billion in climate finance to the Global South, with projects across biogas and biochar that generate high quality carbon credits, biofuels and fertiliser. Arukah is built by experts across capital markets, technology, agriculture, engineering, carbon credit development and data to accelerate high quality, durable carbon removal and emissions reductions. We partner with large Agriculture Supply Chains in Emerging Markets to unlock new revenue streams from waste biomass, with 50% or more in gross project revenue allocated to participating smallholders and MSMEs. With our local partners and global investment committee, we develop high integrity waste biomass to clean energy and carbon removal projects for global buyers that prioritise quality and verifiability. Our projects are based on recognised methodologies incl. BECCUS, biochar, bio-oil - and meet ICVCM's Core Carbon Principles, including additionality, permanence and transparency, and measurable impact on sustainable development - all digitally verifiable. We are also building a digital infrastructure with data from real time sensors, AI, and auditable carbon calculations to carbon credits on blockchain (serialised ERC-721 tokens), to accelerate data-driven, high integrity climate transition. If you are a buyer of high quality carbon credits, including durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR), or a food & agriculture business/ecosystem seeking solutions for inclusive, climate transitions in your supply chain, do follow us and reach out at hello@arukahcapital.com.
