It's been a couple of years since I did a radio interview. This week, I had the opportunity to do an impromptu one interview - my first with Connections MindHealth - on the recent spate of stabbings in Singapore and dispel myths about violence and mental health conditions. Thanks Hongbin Jeong and the @MONEY FM 89.3 team for the opportunity. My heart goes out to the victims, their loved ones, and the witnesses of these tragic incidents. It's crucial that we do not speculate and make assumptions about what led the perpetrators to commit such violent acts. Violence is often a culmination of a complex interplay of personal, interpersonal, situational and societal factors. Certain mental health conditions may increase the risk of violence in rare circumstances. However, the important fact is that persons suffering from mental health conditions are more likely to be victims of rather than perpetrators of violence. Together, we can do more as a society to keep a lookout for and support one another in difficult times. It is important to talk to someone we can trust and encourage one another to seek help early from professionals in times of distress. We are #bettertogether. #mentalwellness #mentalhealth https://lnkd.in/gjDMrM3a

🌍 On this International Volunteer Day, we highlight the inspiring contributions of Dr. Jared Ng, who leads the Enhancing Mental Healthcare Services Project in Cambodia, facilitated by SIF. His work, alongside local professionals from the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital (KSFH), the Transcultural Psychosocial Organisation (TPO), and the Centre for Children and Adolescent Mental Health (CCAMH) in Phnom Penh, is transforming the mental health landscape. Together, they combine expert knowledge with deep cultural insights to develop educational materials and tackle real-life challenges in mental healthcare. This project exemplifies how volunteering transcends borders, creating meaningful change far beyond our immediate surroundings. One small act of kindness can spark a wave of transformation. What could yours be? Today, on International Volunteer Day, we honour the unwavering dedication and passion of volunteers like Dr. Ng and countless others who are making a difference around the world. Let’s remember that each act of giving, no matter how small, has the power to create a world where empathy, support, and positive change flourish.
