A voice of our own

About us

Disabled People’s Association (DPA) is Singapore’s only cross-disability non-profit organisation. We represent the voice of the disability community, working to build a fairer society where everyone can participate in all aspects of life from education to employment and access to social integration. We help the disability community have a voice in society by working with decision-makers in political, commercial and educational institutions so that no decision that impacts us is made without us. We also provide training for both people with disabilities and the public, so we can work together to create an inclusive, accessible society we are all proud of. Our Aims: Raising awareness of the needs of people with disabilities to empower people to live independent lives via access to education, transport, paid employment and community activities. Building public awareness of all types of disabilities, both visible and invisible. DPA has worked on various dynamic campaigns such as the nationwide See The True Me campaign in collaboration with the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). Our Inclusion Ambassadors, DPA members with disabilities run disability awareness workshops. Initiating a constructive dialogue about disability so businesses and the public are conscious of the barriers that prevent people with disabilities being full and productive members of society and work with us to overcome them Sharing research and best practice examples that promotes understanding and potential solutions to key issues Visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DisabledPeoplesAssociation

  • The op-ed by DPA President, Ms Cassandra Chiu, is a powerful reminder that when we embed inclusion into our everyday lives, everyone benefits. Inclusion is more than just accessibility — it’s about creating environments where every individual, regardless of ability, feels valued, respected, and empowered to participate fully. At DPA, we believe true inclusion goes beyond physical infrastructure. It’s about shifting attitudes, shaping policies, and taking everyday actions. Whether it’s ensuring accessible public spaces or providing equitable opportunities in education and employment, every step toward inclusion strengthens and connects our community. 📰 Read the full op-ed: [Straits Times: Everyone benefits when we build inclusion into our everyday lives: https://lnkd.in/gA7hWFa5 ]

  • Congratulations to DPA Board Member, Mr Shalom Lim, on winning the Social Action Award! "Shalom’s impact has been profound; he has contributed to improving accessibility policies affecting thousands and through delivering talks has reached countless students and professionals across Singapore, changing attitudes toward disability. Shalom’s storytelling projects, such as the poem Breaking the Fourth Wall presented at the Singapore Writers Festival and the children’s book Callum’s Courage, use art to break down social barriers and offer a window into the experience of living with a disability. Winning awards such as the Goh Chok Tong Enable Awards 2023 (Promise) has validated Shalom’s journey and encouraged others with disabilities to share their stories. Shalom measures success by the lives he has touched; by youths who see hope after hearing his talks, by audiences who rethink the meaning of inclusion, and by the many following conversations held within Singapore’s social landscape." [ 🌟 Celebrating 38 Years of DPA’s Impact 🌟] It was an honour to attend the Disabled People’s Association (DPA)’s charity dinner to celebrate DPA’s good work in championing the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in Singapore over the last 38 years 💪 By actively engaging the community, we ensure our infrastructure, services and programmes truly meet their needs 👏 Through the Enabling Masterplan 2030, we’ve made progress in employment, accessibility, and quality of life for persons with disabilities. Yet, more work lies ahead, particularly in raising awareness of less visible disabilities and fostering inclusive workplaces 🤝 It takes all of us to achieve our vision of a more inclusive Singapore, where persons with disabilities can achieve their fullest potential and participate as integral and valued members of society. Together, we can create a better tomorrow for all 💪💙 📸 Photos by Raymond Lee @great.photos.sg #InclusiveSG
