DAAS - Decisions are a Science!

Flexible working and AI are at the forefront of workplace innovation in Australia, offering new ways to tackle long-standing challenges. At Flectēre, we’re building capabilities to address a $𝟭.𝟱𝗯𝗻 opportunity in workforce management - 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. We want to connect with 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 who are grappling with the real impact of declining productivity, rising casual labor rates, unpredictable staff availability, and the knock-on effects on customer satisfaction and operating margins. Your insights are invaluable as we work on building 𝗔𝗜-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 solutions to tackle these problems from a fresh perspective. Think predictive models for staff availability, cost-optimization algorithms, and intelligent systems that adapt in real-time—all designed to minimize friction and maximize efficiency. If you’re navigating these challenges, let’s have a conversation. Together, we can shape the future of workforce management. #𝗔𝗜 #𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 #𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 #𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Making decisions under uncertainty requires a fundamentally different way of looking at data - it requires us to hypothesise about what the data might show before actually looking at the data. Imagining what the data may look like when you adopt a big change requires a big creative leap of faith - those who take it are able to play uncertainty to their advantage!

So you know that the way we have been working for the last 100 years is no longer working. You are reading stories on 4-day work weeks, hybrid work arrangements, and flex time. But you are still scared to make a change - either in your own life or perhaps for that of your employees. In this podcast, Margaret Heffernan, an entrepreneur, CEO, executive leadership coach, reminds us that true innovation requires challenging the status quo, and that can be uncomfortable. But if you want to stay a market leader, questioning assumptions and surrounding yourself with others who question challenge you is the proven path to successful. What’s more, our own obsession with data (and we say this as technologists!) can be the exact opposite of creativity. Heffernan reminds us that trying new things in the face of uncertainty to find out what happens, that is the path to innovation. So whether you are taking a gamble on a new format for working hours or a new technology that could increase productivity, think about how you can lean into uncertainty to unleash something new and powerful into the world. https://lnkd.in/gh3qqtcm #flexiblework #timemanagement #timemillionaire #timespecialists #4thdimension #timeaffluence #unlearnrelearn

  • From the panel on Public, Private and Crowd Sourced Funding - As founder it is crucial to look for funding that comes with an offer to unlock opportunities and access to expertise, and not just $ - Expect to see sector and stage specific syndicates emerging with specific expertise, but still connected with the overall innovation ecosystem to enable "transfer learning" - Better tax incentives for retail investors to level the playing field with wholesale investors are needed - Huge opportunity to allow smaller investment companies to raise crowdsourced funding - A lot to learn from how things are working in the UK, wrt regulation of this space - Financial literacy in schools needs to expand, to help those coming into the workforce be better equipped to build wealth and financial buffers - Investment mandates for big LPs still very rigid, more flexibility needed Matt Vitale Cheryl Mack Michelle Vu Percy Hung

  • From the responsible AI session - AI tooling could change the UI layer to banking, so logging into your bank account app is not just about checking balances - financial services runs on a single asset - trust and customer centricity - AI has been around for ages, but it maybe coming into its own now to enable small businesses get access to credit and facilitate growth - APRA expects banks to make more investments in AI as it’s a gateway to more efficiency and productivity in the economy - implementing AI in a responsible manner requires a strong focus on creating a culture of documentation - AI is a tool that gives you leverage - but if adopted without guardrails, it erodes the most important asset - customer trust. A human in the loop is an essential component of this guardrail - AI is still being used primarily to extract insight in the context of financial crime reporting, but there is a lot of concern about larger scale deployments for doing things beyond extracting insight - Using more data could drive financial inclusion as it can drive more confident risk taking - Opex of getting high quality financial insight is much lower with AI as compared to human first advise. For 50% of the population this is a game changer to get higher quality insights earlier in life. But what about the capex of building a reliable model? Who pays for that? - To get started with AI - start small, experiment, fail (a lot) but less than you win, learn what does not work and stay away from it. • Love the digital highway analogies flying around in this session. The recurring theme(s): - how do we stay on this highway without crashing the car - Australia’s CDR framework is ahead of the curve and has a serious chance to be a key guardrail to prevent crashes and enable controlled acceleration - We are collecting a LOT of data but there is still limited capability and/or appetite to figure out what to do with this data - Digital inclusion is not the same thing as financial inclusion - there are many who are unable to get onto the highway - our children are having very different entry points onto this highway as compared to what we experienced - Australia is unique in its consultative approach to policy - it requires all of us to engage with this to ensure the right future ready and risk based approach is adopted.
