Exciting news! 🌊 Dr. Stefan Huebner’s insightful article, Coastal Urban Climate Adaptation and the Advance onto Aquatic Surfaces Using Floating Solutions, has been published in Ocean and Coastal Management. This work delves into the historical and contemporary challenges of social and political acceptance of floating residential structures and explores their immense potential for urban climate adaptation. Highlights: • Explains the value of still-overlooked floating structures like floating homes as tools for urban climate adaptation. • Illustrates why floating structures have less social and political acceptance than other adaptation tools. • Shows the reasons why, historically, land reclamation as an urban development strategy has overshadowed floating solutions. • Highlights the limited ecological impacts of floating structures compared to land reclamation in coastal climate adaptation. • Discusses the situational value of an “advance” strategy that shifts parts of urbanization onto aquatic surfaces 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g3At39pA Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore National University of Singapore

China continues to lead the way in renewable energy innovation, with CHN Energy connecting the first phase of its groundbreaking 1 GW open-sea offshore solar project in Dongying, Shandong province, to the grid. This ambitious venture, set 8 km offshore, spans 1,223 hectares and showcases 2,934 PV platforms engineered for challenging marine conditions. Once completed, it will generate enough energy to power 2.67 million urban residents. JinkoSolar’s n-Type TOPCon bifacial modules, specifically designed for marine environments, ensure durability against salt fog, seawater, and extreme weather. The project integrates fishing and solar power, optimizing marine space with a sustainable approach. China is no stranger to monumental solar projects, with its 3 GW Mengxi Lanhai solar facility recently becoming the second-largest solar installation worldwide. Meanwhile, the world’s largest offshore floating solar array remains Taiwan’s 440 MW project, commissioned earlier this month. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dgH_uX_P

At the Society of Floating Solutions Singapore, we’re thrilled to see floating solar PV transforming the global energy landscape. By 2033, global capacity is projected to reach 77 GW, with 57 GWdc coming from Asia-Pacific. Leading the charge are India, China, and Indonesia, demonstrating the region's vital role in the clean energy transition. One of the most exciting developments comes from Hexa Renewables, a Singapore-based company, which has just commissioned the world’s largest offshore floating solar farm in Taiwan. This 440 MW project, spanning 347 hectares, powers 74,000 homes and highlights the innovation and potential of floating solar technology. It also supports Taiwan’s ambitious renewable energy goals of 20 GW by 2030 and net zero by 2050. Floating solar is unlocking new possibilities, from hybrid systems in reservoirs to large-scale offshore applications, making it a key driver in achieving sustainable energy solutions. 🚀 Let’s celebrate these advancements and continue leading the conversation on scalable, innovative floating solutions for a cleaner, brighter future! 🌍✨ 🔗 Learn more about floating solar’s growth: https://lnkd.in/gNMKxxX6 🔗 Discover Hexa Renewable's groundbreaking project: https://lnkd.in/d5i53VCV
