Who said undergrads can't publish? Coauthored my second paper and it's officially out! 🚀 In 2022, I joined a wonderful team with members from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Fairfield University, and The University of Edinburgh to research the institutional, economic, and technical barriers to decarbonizing maritime transport in the Galapagos Islands. This study underscored the importance of water taxi owners in this decarbonization effort. We just published our results on their individual and group preferences for electric outboard engines in the Journal of Transportation Research Part D (Q1, impact factor: 7.6!). I wonder if the establishment of a new new national centre for retrofit of traditional buildings in Scotland wasn't the right time for other national level heritage organisations overseas like the The Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society or the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, or the even farther laying Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust to reach out to Historic Environment Scotland and to propose sharing experiences? Considering that heritage science and research is at the heart of the new hub in its approach to developing best practice for the retrofit of traditional buildings, which require a wider access to skills pool or funding. Especially the "retrofit interventions required to improve energy efficiency in modern buildings are often inappropriate for these traditional buildings" is experienced here as well on a daily basis. 20 Years of Grantmaking🔸🔹Flashback to 2014 when nearly $700,000 was granted to twenty-two projects and programs. 🇱🇻In the Europe-LAND project, the University of Latvia (UL) team, led by Maris Klavins, Karina Stankevica, Zane Vincevica-Gaile, Māris Nartišs (not pictured) and Jānis Krūmiņš, has a strong environmental science and geoinformatics foundation, pioneering the future of land use and Land cover patterns. Nature based solutions are best alternatives as soft structures. Shelterbelts or bio-shields developed in coastal areas with coastal plants taking into cognizance the beach profile and coastal ecosystem dynamics will act as and play the mitigatory role and will save the lives and livelihoods of coastal population. These are also ecosystem friendly when compared to hard concrete structures.
