Our panel on NatCat protection gaps during the #GAIPSummit2024 emphasised the need to combine risk reduction strategies, such as prevention and adaptation, with risk financing tools, like insurance and contingent capital. Increasing public understanding of disaster risks and fostering public-private partnerships are also vital for long-term resilience. Key actions to consider: - Expand Commitment to Pre-Arranged Financing: Shift resources from reactive to proactive, pre-arranged financing solutions. Encourage insurers and public sector entities to allocate funds to ex-ante crisis preparedness. - Enhance Access to Risk Data and Transparency: Promote the public availability of hazard maps and other risk-related data to help communities understand and manage their risk landscape more effectively. - Mandate Insurer Contributions to Loss Reduction: Consider regulatory policies that require insurers to invest a portion of premiums in risk mitigation efforts, particularly in high-risk areas, to support resilience. - Simplify and Enhance Insurance Products: Focus on creating accessible, flexible, and transparent insurance solutions to meet the needs of diverse markets, including underserved regions and gig workers. On the panel: - Yao L., Associate Director, Global Asia Insurance Partnership - Shaun S. Wang, Chairman, Risk Lighthouse - Benedikt Signer, Executive Director, SEADRIF Insurance Company & Senior Advisor, Global Finance Group, University of Oxford - Lubomir Varbanov, Managing Director and Head of Public Sector Solutions for Asia Pacific, Swiss Re Stay tuned for the full report on our Summit at https://www.gaip.global/ #collaboration #publicprivatepartnership #natcat #riskresilience #disasterrisks
